Springfield Armory's New Hi-Power

I have a slightly older Assembled-in-Portugal HP that I bought around 2005. Mine feeds fine and I have qualified for LEOSA with it several times. It's a keeper.

Hey partner, I'm happy for you!:) It was a bummer and a letdown: the gun was absolutely beautiful. BTW, the FBI buddy mentioned above had the Devil's own time clearing that Catastrophic. At least it fouled up on the range and not on the street!

BTW, in the above-cited TFB video, there is a jam near the start. Shows a shooter loading a magazine and the gun jamming open on the 1st round. Gotta look quick! Check 6.

I already have 2 "Portugal Brownings".

But I like HPs and will put my order in at my LGS tomorrow.

Looks good, glad that they did away with the mag safety.

Only wish that they had included an ambi thumb safety for us lefties. However, I will wait a bit, and see if others are able to drop in the SFS, which I have in my FN and my Tisas. I have an FEG, but dimensionally it would not accept the SFS so it is stock.

I had an old HP with the little shark fin front sight.
It was ok. But difficult for me to fire and get used to the sights.
I would get a new one if it had the better sights on it. I sold that old one for lack of shooting interest (because of the sights)

I've had a BHP since right after the AWB.

It's as cool a pistol that was ever designed, in some ways. If I had to be in a shootout, I'd take it over most guns out there and indeed most guns I have. I carry a G17 or G19 now, but I think BHP could hold its own in the L.A. Riots as well as those two.

For that kind of money, it's worth it to y'all that have never had one to get into it. Mec-Gar magazines are plentiful and excellent.

BHP was designed before hollow points, and some are finicky with feeding. Mine was always 100% even with the big-mouthed Sierra / Corbon loads, but mileage varies. They've probably tweaked this one to work better with more kinds of ammo, but if you want to carry JHPs, I'd recommend the rounder Federal 9BP type or similar.

The video I saw said that they had recontoured the feed ramp, so it should be GTG.

"Good thing I already have my name on Mr. Spegel's Hi Power grip list to avoid the rush."

Good luck, I've been on that list for at least two years, maybe three. I did call him when the first year was up just to make sure I was still on the list, and he said I was. Now I'm not so sure. :)

But, if "Manes can live without Diogenes, why not Diogenes without Manes". :D

That is good news. When FN announced the discontinuation of that model a few years ago, prices here in CA immediately shot up around $1300- $1400. It doesn't look like it has the fine polish and blue that the older commercial ones had, but for $699 I wouldn't complain.

As far as a .40 cal version ? Meh... it was done before and was a kludge design as it wasn't just a barrel and magazine change but required beefing up the frame and/or slide and was never very satisfactory. The 9mm version with today's ammo and a 15 round Mec-Gar contract magazine is a formidable weapon.

$699 MSRP!!??!! For an all metal, hammer fired gun? With FORGED frame, slide and parts!!?

But all the trolls say it "..can't be done today!..." "..It would cost over a THOUSAND to buy a gun made like that today." ;)

My SA35 is on order at my dealer. :) Glad I didn't sell all my old High Power mags. Regards 18DAI

What is their price point from ordering one? Lead time? Extra magazines available, and at what price?

Not trying to be noisy, I want pne too! Only one on the auction site,, and it's going to cost somebody a grand or more! I want one to try out, but not at that price point.

Happy to see it's being offered though.

I hope it's not a Tisas--the stainless one I had was utterly unreliable and inaccurate. I'd like to buy the Springfield but to be honest I don't even shoot the ones I have--an Inglis, a "beer-can" Belgium made, and a Mk.III.

I DO have a couple of sets of Spegel cocobolo grips, so hmmmm....better than buying plastic, I guess.

It's like they climbed inside my head. My first handgun was a cosmetically challenged Portuguese Browning. It still resides in my dad's safe.

I have been looking for a more recent Hi-power to set up exactly like this. Unfortunately, I will likely have to wait until I am free of California.
