OIL FILTER RANT!

I have been an Amsoil user for 20 years now and truly believe in their products. Last week I called George, (my personal Amsoil Dealer) to order oil and filters for both my vehicles and he said the filters were on back order with no due date in sight. :eek: :eek:

OK - I told him don't worry about it (first time that ever happened) and I'd just get them locally or online. Locally I struck out! I went online and after an hour I could not find Amsoil or Royal Purple (same manufacturer as Amsoil) for my vehicles anywhere! I then did a little research and found that the Mobil One Extended Life filter is almost as good as those two and had no choice but to seek some of those out. It took me about 20 minutes to find a website that had them both and then I ordered them.

So whats the issues with oil filters???? SUPPOSEDLY there is now a steel shortage and company's producing products in the USA can't get the steel! :mad: :mad: Just add oil filters to the list now! :mad: :mad:

Like a whole lot of things, they are likely either sitting on a boat, anchored outside of the Port of Los Angeles or sitting on the dock at the Port of Los Angeles.
 
Parents' neighbor died a couple of weeks back. His widow was told it might be a year and a half before she could get a tombstone.


They have the rock, but cannot get whatever rubber product they use to make a template for sandblasting. How's this guy going to stay in business?
 
I wonder if this is a regional problem? I bought Mobile 1 filters last week and found them in stock at 3 stores locally. They were $9.95 - $19.95 between Walmart and NAPA with O'Reilly in between.
I've seen no non-reloading shortages here on anything I normally buy, but I may not be needing things that are short supply.

Either you don't or perhaps you get loans, possible SBA loans and hopefully you can repay them in the future.
 
Well I have a pile of filters for my truck which is good. I just hate changing the oil in it. Its got one of those stupid cartridge filters and what a mess it is to change the oil. Its a Toyota Tacoma. I use to have a FJ cruiser and I miss changing that oil as the oil filter was the regular kind and it was located on top of the engine.
 
I work in the automotive field. It's an industry wide problem.
I suspect Amsoil and Mobil 1 filters being in the top tier, reduces the potential market. Therefore more supply.
Like I said in another thread, one our suppliers(Wix) who also make NAPA filters, sent out an email that they had over 22,000 of one popular number on back order with no deliver date in sight. That was a month or so ago. It has only gotten worse.
If you have a favorite brand of oil or filters and do you own maintenance, I think you'd be wise to lay in a years supply of both when you locate them.

Different kind of rant here. My VW comes with free oil changes from the dealer, but he says it takes a minimum three hours to complete. :eek:
Since I'd have to wait on-site for the job's completion, I instead paid Jiffy Lube to do the service. Done in less than 30 minutes from arrival, without an appointment, and I could stay in the car. :)

Make sure you check their work, like a new filter installed and proper of oil and clean!

I stayed in the car and saw a new filter from a clean box installed, and oil refilled from the correctly labeled oil fill hose. That's the capability limit of due-diligence on my part, but hopefully they provide legitimate services.

Jiffy lube stripped the oil drain plugs on 2 of my cars. You'd think I would have learned after the first time. Of course they would not admit it and I had to pay for the repair at a "real" shop.

Just bought a set of tires at a reputable tire dealer. Walking around while I waited and the look of the idiot mechanics just made me wonder.

The 184 auto check sheet showed 33 33 33 33 pressure on all tires. Call me cynical. I checked at home. 36 37 38 52. Wholly ****.
