Been looking for one of these for a while and a fellow agent was building a new rifle and liquidating his stash. I hit him up for any Colt 1911's but the one he had was a little out of my price range. He mentioned that he had a .357 that he used in the police pistol team and it was in good condition. I was thinking what the heck, I could use another 686 so I offered him $500 sight unseen. What he brought me was a beautiful Model 19 Combat Magnum and since we've worked together for nearly 20yrs, the $500 was good!
I have wanted a Combat Magnum for a while but got the 1911 bug and that want was shelved.
Best part about is that USBP legend Bill Jordan helped design the Combat Magnums, which the Border Patrol used, and this one was used for the USBP matches by a fellow agent and will now happily reside with another!
Now she will rest with by other blued magnum! My Distinguished Combat Magnum, 586!

That was my first duty gun in 1981. Same configuration. I sold it to a brother who passed away several years ago. By the time he got it, it was sad to look at, having rode in a duty holster for about 15 years. I have no idea where it is now.

NICE!

I bought one in the mid 60s with summer job money. Paired it with a Bianchi holster, belt combo and fancy walnut Herrett Jordan troupers. Lost it to a home burglery a decade later. Replaced with this

Awesome deal for You... Horrible deal for your Buddy... What was he thinking? Unless it was kind of a "Bro-Deal" like I have given my little brother because I love him... that is the only thing I can think of that happened here. You should likewise repay your Buddy with a dinner and a show for he and his wife for sure, hahahaha!

I did the same thing selling my little brother a vintage Chinese Norinco AK patterned rifle for only $600 when the same would go for $2G's Plus now days... So I get it. Good for you as it sounds like you too have a Lifelong Brother In Arms just as I do!

I used a stock 6" M19-2 in PPC when I worked for DOC back in the 1970's. Traded it for a M66-1 to shoot Service Revolver class, and sold that one in the early 2000's. Took me a while to replace it, now I have a 4" M19-3, from 1974. It goes to the range whenever I do, and I haven't spared it from full magnum loads, although I stay away from 110 and 125 bullets. I have the box and original target stocks, too.

Two very nice revolvers! The Model 19 has always been my favorite, from an aesthetic and practical viewpoint, but if I were shooting .357 Magnums exclusively, I'd have to vote for the 586. In any case, nice revolvers! Thanks for the pics and congrats on your new .357. :)

Fantastic!
That can't be a Model 19 because they are priced nowadays around $900 in that condition. I need to shop where you shop.
The 4" 586 is my favorite S&W. You probably got it for $400.
Really...Very nice!
Thanks for sharing.

I wish!!

The 586 was closer to 1k but still a good price for non-lock in my book!

Thanks!

Congrats on your new CM.
I'm guessing it's a dash 5?
Have you compared serial numbers to your 586?
They both have the then new left side smal Tm, look like semi early alpha prefix

Yeah, the CM is a Dash-5. My 586 is a Dash-2 with a manufacture date of March 1988. I have to check the date of the Model 19. I will ask on the forum!
Thanks!!!
