.44 HE-4th model target front sight question

This model was not on my radar but I spotted it at my local shop. After some research and reading comments on the forum I had to have it. No box or tools and the front site has been modified. Come to find out it was "safe mate"to my 38/44 outdoorsman I bought at same shop back in July and I'm glad that they will remain together. My question is regarding the front sight. It looks like a modified patridge with a brass or copper insert. Has anyone ever seen this before? Or have info? Or is it just something custom?

That is exactly what it is- a modified Patridge.

Back when .44 Specials couldn't be found, I had a M27 converted, using a 6 1/2" factory target barrel. The Patridge sight was tearing up the inside of my duty holster, so I modified it to a ramp, with a red insert. When I got done, the shape was just like yours.

Thank you Lee for input. I have to say after a bit of brasso it looks pretty damn nice. Your probably correct. I'm sure it works just fine. I know it has been on there since 1957.
