Hello, just wondering if anyone had sent any revolvers back to S&W for warranty recently and if so what the turn around time was? I sent my 329 pd back with a very crooked forcing cone (.006-.00115) and some cosmetic issues. And a 629 classic with machine marks up the front of the frame.

Both were received by S&w on 12-14-21.

Thanks

I sent a Model 19 back in early October around the 10th and got it back about the first of December. So right around 7 weeks. Slightly canted barrel was the big problem

My son had his 686 fixed for an indexing problem. He was not the original owner but S&W has a lifetime of the gun warranty so ownership did not make a difference in this case. It took about 8 weeks. No cost.

Communications

I would suggest, Email and call S&W. I doubt if they
would be upset with you. Just say your looking for
an update.

The Best to you and your Endeavors.

I sent my Model 317 back for some warranty work and it took about 5 weeks.

I just sent in a new 642PC for a clocked barrel and they quoted me 6-8 weeks.

I sent a 642 with cracked frame back in October. They provided FedEx label. Good email communication they had received it. I called customer service a couple of times for updates. About a month later determined it would be destroyed and a replacement provided. I chose a 442NL which was out of stock and I just received last week. No complaints here.

I called Customer service about a month into the process to see if they could give me an update. Nope ! Call if you want but the person I talked to said all they knew was when it was logged in.

Thank you all for the replies. I will give it a few more weeks. Then give them a call. As long as there both fixed correctly and they don’t mess up the .005 cylinder gap that the 629 classic had, then I will be happy.

Just received a tracking number from them, so at least 1 revolver is headed back, not sure if they would put 2 revolvers in the same box or not?

I sent my Model 317 back for some warranty work and it took about 5 weeks.

I sent my 317 back for timing issues and it was back in about 5 weeks too. And that was shorter than what the rep told me it would be.

Iirc, sent back in May.

The timing issues were corrected.

Sent my Ruger Lcp 2 22lr in for repair 7 days back in my hands……. It came back the same way I sent it broken. Maybe it’s worth a longer wait if it’s fixed right the first time.

I had a 67-5 repaired and it took about 5 weeks. No charge and no complaints about the work.

I had to send my Model 19 Classic in, took 2 exactly two months, which is what they told me when I called for instructions.

Repair work under warranty

The time it takes depends on what needs to be fixed and parts availability. A member of this forum sent a 617 back with cracked frame. IIRC it took less than 2 months for the gun to get back to the owner.

Shortly thereafter, a local shooter found a crack in his 617 frame. He sent it back 6 months ago and is still waiting. The factory has run out of the frame needed and will fix his gun when they can get a frame.

Luck of the draw I guess.

Got one

I received the 629-6 today. S&W did well, they kept the barrel to cylinder gap at .005 refinished the frame and polished the barrel shroud. Looks great( like it should have looked new out of the box).

I put the grips that came on my 329pd on it and will see how they feel on the 629 ( they had me bleeding after 5 rounds on the 329). Now just waiting on the 329, which I guess they are probably waiting on a barrel shroud to be made as the anodizing was messed up and had punch marks from putting in the pins along with the very crooked forcing cone.

I recently bought a really nice used 686-6, everything checked out, BUT never expected that the barrel would not be parallel to the frame. In other words, the barrel was screwed cockeyed into the frame. Need a LOT of windage on the sight to zero the gun.

Called S&W customer service, the nice lady told me that since I was not the original purchaser, they would not honor the warranty. They would do it on my dime, and turn around would be 8 to 10 months!
