Odd Carry position

Any position without a holster or some means to protect the trigger is problematic.

The small of the back - in a holster - was popular in the past.

Plenty of new Small of Back (***) holsters still available.

I've done it many years ago. Called Mexican carry. (No that is not a diminishment of anyone. When the proud Vaqueros where told that they could not carry guns, they just did away with the holster and stuck their revolvers in their sash and pants.) Not the most comfortable. Works better for a 1911 than a snub J frame. As for unsafe, know your gun pay attention. Seems to me that the last 25-30 years the Safety Nazis have taken over and if you do carry behave do exactly as your TOLD then....................
Nothing personal but case in point; "Any position without a holster or some means to protect the trigger is problematic." Why? What is the fear of an uncovered trigger in a 1911, long & heavy double action revolver,.....? Again just in fun I'll bet a Fitz Special  gives ya night mares.;)

I’ve seen that done in a lot of movies. I guess it’s supposed to look cool.

I’ve normally seen it done with a 1911 where you at least have both a grip safety and a manual safety to reduce the issues of possible trigger intrusion. However as a general rule I regard a holster protecting the trigger as an essential safety system for a carry gun, especially when it doesn’t have a manual safety.

I have a small of the back holster for a 1911, and I have a couple other holsters with multiple slots that enable the, to be used as small of the back holsters, but it’s never appealed to me for a few reasons:

- it’s not comfortable when seated in a vehicle and it’s almost impossible to draw when seated and buckled in, so the gun has to come out and go back in every time you get in our out of your vehicle.

- It’s difficult to draw some handguns from a small of the back holster without sweeping the back of your legs, especially when moving.

- it’s difficult to reholster a handgun into a small of the back holster after a shoot when you are under stress.

- if you ever fall on your back, it’s not going to do your back any good. Back in the day, I didn’t even carry a handcuff case centered on my spine for that same reason.

Just say No! Small of the back waistband carry is a poor position for a number of reasons stated above. It is awkward, slow and uncomfortable, to mention a few. The farther you get from your center line, the slower the draw and presentation. I would never advocate carrying any of the striker fired weapons without a holster and that goes for many of the other action types as well. I have carried a 1911 in condition 1 without a holster, tucked into my waistband, strong side with no issues and would not hesitate to do it again due to the safety systems Incorporated in the design.
Not really sure why anyone would want to carry a revolver in this manner. Because of the round cylinder it would likely slide down inside the pants and make it impossible to draw when needed or end up on the floor with an embarrassing outcome!

When I was a young buck in a snow bound carpenter crew in Wyoming, A guy impressed me with his storys of carrying a 44 mag between the shoulder blades of his back while hiding another in the small of his rump, and keeping one at each kidney. He was the heavy equip operator and no one ever knew who ran over the power company's big green elec box.

I prefer a small revolver in a cross draw holster

When things get nervous, I cross my arms and place my right hand on my left-mounted cross draw holster, ready for whatever happens. An added benefit is when my strong hand is busy, I can still draw my pistol.

Just my 2 cents worth.

“A smart man learns through experience, a wise man learns through the experience of others.”

How many times do smart men have to shoot themselves in the *** or worse before wise men counsel protecting a trigger?

This particular device is the epitome of stupid. It doubles down on the already stupid enough clip draw style device for holster less carry and then adds the ability to carry a striker fired pistol small of the back. It becomes a race to see what will happen first:

- shooting yourself while you try to stick it in your waist band behind your back; or

- slip and fall on your back, breaking your spine.

Bonus points for the wimpy belt that is already sagging.

I never did the Mexican Carry thing b/c I was too skinny then. Some of those who did use that method also wrapped rubber bands around the grip of their revolver (never witnessed a semi auto carried that way) I’m guessing to keep it in place.

All the COooool kids do it .... in Books, TV and movies! :)

I've been known to do it on occasion when running out to the local market a mile down the road in my quiet Burb of the Burgh..... with a Smith 915 safety on....... Mexican carry at 4-5 O'clock ..... but not "***"

I would never, ever, ever carry a pistol without a holster. Not even in the pocket.

Repeat: NEVER.

Not with a pistol, no. But I do with a revolver. In fact, that's what this one was made for IMHO. Just think of the tactical advantage it gives you to have a gun in your hand and no one is the wiser.

Actually, I found this holster to be quite comfortable for $OB carry with my Kimber Ultra Carry.

I stopped carrying in this manner due to;

(a) age and concerns about falling and landing on my back and

(b) I found it a bit disconcerting that the safety lever would sometimes, somehow disengage while carrying in this manner.

The holster-less crowd doesn't come to this forum.

A gun is common to carry without a holster if you plan on having to toss it in the bushes before you are arrested and don't want your probation pulled. No holster to say that you actually own any gun.

Quite different than a forum full of collectors that are gathering more guns and not planning on possibly being in cuffs before the day is done.
