I think there are some regional variations in price, but my guess is $1200-$1400. Others with more expertise will chime in, I'm sure.

Diamond Walnuts or the newer style Goncalo Alves? I wouldn't expect it to have Cokes in 68.

Your 29-2 as described is near new in the original case with the cardboard shipping carton that should have a sticker showing the model and serial number of the revolver. I think the package is easily worth $2,000 plus to the right collector. The stocks should be diamond targets made of Goncalo alves and the case would be a clamshell type.

I have one just like it. Same year and condition. Something special about the S series, mine has been fired no box or papers, $1,000.00 out the door. yours would be $2,000.00 easy...…………………………………………….M*

Just now checked Gunbroker...there are 44 Model 29 4" revolvers with NO BIDS! There are a total of 156 Model 29's with NO BIDS! As I stated before...the Model 29 market is DOWN... I guess the old adage is true...your revolver is worth what an individual is willing to pay for it...

That's probably not an accurate sampling. Most guns on GunBroker have lots of watchers with no bids until the last day or more so the last hour. I usually don't bid on guns until hours before auctions end.

A more accurate sample would be counting finished auctions.

I don't think S&W's are down, at least the ones I collect (19's short barrels, 66's short barrels, 27-2 and earlier, and 29-2 and earlier. Lately have not been buying much as they are going for higher than I'd pay ( I know I'm cheap ;) ), but was buying them regularly over the last couple years.

Here in Texas N frames in general especially 27-2 and earlier, and 29-2 and earlier have been going up in value for the last couple of years. Two years ago I was seeing them at gun shows and buying them for around $700-800 in the last year I have not seen any around here for less than $1100 with pre model number guns bringing much more and that's just the gun no box, tools or papers.

And if you look at a lot of the auctions, you will see that a lot are way overpriced for the condition of the gun too. I have been actively looking at model 29's the last few weeks and just won an auction for a nickel 29-2 in great shape, no box or tools or paperwork for $1289. That was on the higher end for me, but I decided in the last few hours to place the bid. The gun I won is about a 1973 vintage gun, N135XXX according to the seller. Since I already have a presentation case for a 6 1/2" model 29 that I bought off of here in the classifieds, I wasn't worried about buying one with a presentation case.

Also they have some sellers there that pretty much price any S&W revolver they have up for auction at just totally ridiculous pricing too. If you check the completed auctions you will find the pricing pretty much all over the place on guns that actually sold. But I did see some that were actively bid on and were in the condition that the OP is describing selling for around the pricing Doc44 is stating and in some cases even more.

Seems like short barreled 29s and 27s are all drying up. gun shows are not what they used to be. Colt SAAs about the same! I remember years ago all the good stuff was everywhere and me with no money. today I have a little money to spend and no Guns....Go figure...………………………………………..M*

If you don't mind bidding online, GunBroker has several 3 1/2" 27's for sale at somewhat reasonable prices if you are looking for a shooter grade gun, Mblhopo.

I'm looking at a 29-2 8 3/8" blue in box, very slight turn line, with original receipt, papers, box, cleaning tools. Only issue is that owner lost the original grips. And idea of what a fair price would be for this?

As described perhaps $1200; more like $1500 with the original stocks where I shop. Depends a little on the timeframe when it was produced. Provide a SN and some pictures and folks here can get pretty close on value.
