Old Gun Oil Collection

Very nice, thank you for posting this.

I like the Sears. I have my Dad's JC Higgins 12ga. pump that he ordered pre-GCA68 into the Sears catalog store in Honesdale PA. My Mom worked there in the early 60's during the holidays.

Simpler times.

Very interesting...I have a few of those hanging about. Since we're here about oil, here's a mystery oil can I've had for years, don't know where it came from, but for some reason think it had to do with firearms or at least the military.
Anybody recognize this?

Hey Spajohn, Those are known as Banjo oilers, I've seen them listed as anything from Military to Bicycle/General purpose oilers..

Hey, thanks for that--now that I have a name and can google it, it seems that there are many references to a machine gun oiler, which is what I initially suspected.

Welcome to the forum.
Nice collection and display. Probably more affordable than some on here. 😳😁
I remember a few of these, never thought to save them.

The stuff inside all those cans is very likely identical, just a light machine oil, same as would be used on sewing machines, bicycles, reels, etc. I have something like a dozen or so such cans, but I don't collect them, just an accumulation from over many years.

The only really different oil is watch and clock oil which will not get gummy with age. That is what I use on my handguns.

Thanks for the kind words and greetings!

I still think I've got at least 30 cans to go before I complete the collection.

I have a feeling the Store Brand kits were all made by Outers.

I'm sure back in the day, everyone had a favorite they swore by, just like now!

Nice collection Chris.

This is what I have. Oil can & bottles and solvent cans & bottles. There are a couple of books to get if you want to collect oil cans. Got A Drop Of Oil? and Got A Drop Of Oil? 2nd Edition Got a Drop of Oil - AbeBooks

Have Fun!

Will try to remember to look them up.

I never thought of keeping my empties over the years.
