Well the thugs of the world seem to be numerous, not just Putin, the guy everybody loves to hate. And who exactly is going to stop them?
Well...I think the best way to "stop" them is to deter them from trying anything to begin with. We (meaning the civilized nations of the world) seem to keep forgetting this lesson, and we have to learn it all over again every few decades.
It's funny: we (meaning individuals) all understand that in any unit of society -- family, town, city, state -- people who might be inclined to break the rules are kept in check by the certain knowledge that they will pay a price for their misdeeds. Absent that fear of consequences, they'll do what they want...which is what we've seen Putin do for years. Unfortunately, the leaders of the various Western nations seem to have forgotten this basic fact of life, or they want to pretend they can wish evil away.
The natural state of mankind is conflict and warfare...we are a violent species. And, as the saying goes...si vis pacem, para bellum.
(By the way, Putin is the guy everybody -- well, almost everybody -- loves to hate because he's an evil man who's done hateful things.)
One of the things that mankind has excelled at throughout history is devising more efficient methods of butchering one another.
Sadly, only too true. One has to wonder, when the "aliens" do decide to make contact, whether they, as a supposedly superior species, will have transcended that unfortunate trait, or alternately, have "advanced" to being able to sow murder on an inter-galactic scale
Maybe one of the reasons they haven't made contact is because we are simply too primitive. ("Beam me up, Galzophidis; there's no intelligent life down here.")

China is and Has been in Africa for many, many years. Their " influence" is there. Know a retired US Army officer that goes over to Africa to " advise" certain counties.

Yes, they are, as well as in SE and South Asia, then sometimes in a few South American spots. And the Chinese watch as we spend money advising the least awful governments while they simply do business - extracting what they want, building roads to where they can mine/drill for what they want, then build hospitals in larger places for their workers that locals might be able to use. They also loan money.
What they do not do is involve themselves in other peoples' conflicts. They want to make money and build economic influence.

China is also making economic moves in the Caribbean. Those that have been in Jamaica know the highways. We were in Jamaica prior to Covid and there was a brand new highway across the island from the airport built with Chinese investment. The taxi drivers called it The China Road.

Funny you mention that now. I was working out today and talking to a Jamaican born woman who I've known for awhile.
She told me the Chinese are in Jamaica buying up everything.
Buying up everything...... but the land is not Take Out.
Marine Electrical/Electronics buddies who spent some years in China said no OSHA and the workers treated pitifully.

Years ago wife and I were in Hawaii. When at Pearl the hushed joke was the Japanese couldn't take it so they are buying it. I think the Chinese, after watching the crude Russians, have learned.

This has only gone on as long as it has because Putin has a nuclear button. I take it the Grauniad (I'll explain later) reminded its readers of same.
