Anybody watch Jonny Quest when they were a kid?

I was a big JQ fan! My older brother and I thought it was the coolest cartoon. The animation was what we liked the most as it was more realistic than most of the cartoons of the time. Man, Saturday Morning Cartoons were a great time. I remember my brothers and I would get up early around 7 and watch the black and white cowboy shows that our dad grew up with and then go to the kitchen and fix a huge bowl of Capt Crunch, Honey Combs, or Frosted Flakes and lay down in front of our console TV and watch cartoons until almost noon. Those are definitely some good memories. I sound like the old guy I am, but kids today don't know what they're missing.

My favorite Johnny Quest episode, although there were a lot of good ones, was the one with the giant Mechanical Spider ("The Robot Spy") created by Dr, Zin. .

Take pity on me.

Growing up there was only one television station (BBC). It only broadcast a few hours in the morning and a few in the evening. The only kids show I remember was chewing gum for the eyes. Not having any other shows to gauge it by I thought this was what television magic was.

Remember, this was all I had. Please watch it until the end. It starts getting bizarre around the 2 minute mark.

That was disturbing. And yet, you seem normal, considering. ;)

Years ago, I saw a documentary on Jonny Quest. He is actually a renaming of a character of an old radio show from 1933 to 1951: "Jack Armstrong:The All-American Boy". To listen to one of these shows there are differences, but a WHOLE lot of similarities.

When the rights to Jack Armstrong couldn't be obtained, the name of the character was going to be "Chip Ballou" and the show "The Saga of Chip Ballou".

If you think the show was full of drama.......it sounded like behind the scenes was even worse!

Jonny Quest is beyond classic and while it was modernized and ressurrected with some success about twenty years back, the original was one of the works that cannot be topped....even with live action.

Hanna Barbera had a lot of prime time cartoons that weren't really designed for kids (Flintstones, etc.) and these would never get looked at by a network in these politically correct and sensitive days. But the original Jonny Quest IMHO can never be topped.

Those were such great times. Saturday morning cartoons! Not to mention Buggs, Daffy, Sam, all those loony guys. Anybody remember Space Ghost?

Sppppppaaaaaccee Ghoooooost!

Still find it amusing that Space Ghost's voice was Gary Owens who was cracking people up on on Laugh-In every week at the same time. Could never quite look at Space ghost the same.

BTW: Tim Matheson, Jonny Quest's voice, was the voice of Space Ghost's ward Jace.

Good grief! I bet that stunted the intellectual growth of a lot of Englishmen!:D

I don't know what year that aired on the BBC but it makes me think Sgt. Pepper and Magical Mystery Tour had to be inspired by that.

1953. They made 78 episodes and went into reruns in 1957. They brought it back as a new series in 2001. I relapsed and went right back into therapy when I watched it.

I enjoyed Johnny Quest because it was more based on reality (mostly) and using your wits to solve problems. I could never be Superman but Johnny Quest? Oh yeah, that was within reach. :-)

For more far out stuff I always liked the little Martian guy, Marvin, on Bugs Bunny.

Looks like most people liked the giant robot spider espisode the best but my favorite episode was the one with the old man in the wheel chair and his trained prehistoric pteranadon. I would love to know how they made the sound effects with the dinosaur scream.
