The Russians have gone in

He was speaking to the IAEA, and using the European meaning of control, meaning monitor, which is what they do.

That infamously slanted tabloid interpreted this comment to be a "demand" headline?

"Zelensky said. "If Russia has forgotten what Chernobyl is, it means that global control over Russia's nuclear facilities, and nuclear technology is needed.""

Mystery fires at sensitive facilities compound Russia's war challenge

WaPo article (free access) here

"Unexplained fires at strategic locations in Russia, including a sensitive defense research site and the country's largest chemical plant, have raised suspicions of some kind of sabotage despite no evidence that most were not accidental....

"...At least two other fires well out of the range of Ukrainian missiles can't easily be explained.

Last Thursday, a blaze tore through the upper stories of the Defense Ministry's Second Central Research Institute in the town of Tver, northwest of Moscow; at least 17 people died, according to Russia's state-run Tass news agency..."

As Ukraine gathers strength and achieves more of an equal war foot via heavy weapons from the West, would expect an agressive step-up of attacking strategic Russian assets across the border. Internal Russian media propaganda about the 'success' of the war will quickly lose credibility as assets starting going bang admidst it's population.

Reported on left wing WRAL news. They must be right.

2 billion barrels oil imported into the UK since sanctions.

Ukraine updates: Russia shuts off gas to Poland and Bulgaria

Someone is funding this war.

Workarounds maybe, some smoke and mirrors. ;)

Maybe our new found Iranian friends can fill the gap?:)

The old Soviet mindset doesn't fund anything. They tell people to do stuff and it had better happen or else. By any Western measure the Soviet Union was probably bankrupt by 1970, but that never stopped them building new tanks, MiGs, ICBMs and whatever. You cannot apply Western methods of buying, selling and maintaining ledgers when analyzing these places. These are constructs that these people ignore when required, which is much of the time. See Economy of North Korea.

I think the Ukrainians had better get those Gepard systems set up as point defense for railway stations, bridges and big electrical substations. They should be able to deal with the regular cruise missiles quite well, but maybe not the hypersonic Khinzal. If you look at the Gepard Wiki page I posted, you will see there is a specific load for just this purpose.

Poor l'il Putie doesn't have enough Khinzals, T-14 tanks, Su57 third generation fighters to actually deploy, and no means to ramp up production.

It would be a shame if a set of Ukrainian UDT operators scuttled the Black Sea fleet at their harbor in Sevastopol.

"As per the latest information, the Black Sea Fleet comprises six guided missile cruisers (Oops! Now five! :) ), one multi-role corvette, seven diesel attack submarines and seven landing ships, besides high-speed landing craft, corvettes, sea-going minesweepers, anti-saboteur boats, guided missile corvettes, missile boats and anti-submarine ships, among others vessels" What you need to know about Russia's Black Sea Fleet | The Straits Times

Fixed it for ya :)

..."The fleet was founded by Russia's Prince Potemkin in 1783....
Hmmm... even better if the current one isn't quite what it appears to be, but the naval equivalent of a Potemkin village.:)

Just a question.

How does a man in his position, get a Insurance company to write out a policy on him?

They must know the risk and possible outcome, that might take place.
I don't think even Loyds of London would touck him !!

"We discussed all the dangers created by Russia and ways to possibly influence the situation to protect Europe and the world from completely irresponsible actions of the Russian Federation," the president said. He then called for a global takeover of Russia's nuclear capabilities.

"I believe that after all that the Russian military has done in the Chernobyl zone and at the Zaporizhzhia power plant, no one in the world can feel safe knowing how many nuclear facilities, nuclear weapons and related technologies the Russian state has," Zelensky said. "If Russia has forgotten what Chernobyl is, it means that global control over Russia's nuclear facilities, and nuclear technology is needed."

Pretty clear to anyone.

CNN's Clarissa Ward a few days ago
accompanied a rescue operation
of a victim of a Russian missile
attack. While there, the Russians
struck again. As she said, "They're
shelling the s--t out of us.!"

Now Putin's favorite Russian TV
commentator took note of Ward's
presence and wished her well to
get out of yet another war zone
where the U.S. abandoned its
allies.

Ward has covered the Iraq,
Afghanistan and Syrian battle
zones and now Ukraine.

Ward probably never expected to
become a symbol of U.S.
"weakness."

But to a lot of us, she's one brave
and wonderful dame who represents
a great U.S.

They Flooded Their Own Village, and Kept the Russians at Bay

Gotta admire these people's determination.

Free-access NYT article here

Ukraine released water from a hydroelectric dam to block the Russian military advance, flooding the village of Demydiv.
DEMYDIV, Ukraine — They pull up soggy linoleum from their floors, and fish potatoes and jars of pickles from submerged cellars. They hang out waterlogged rugs to dry in the pale spring sunshine.

All around Demydiv, a village north of Kyiv, residents have been grappling with the aftermath of a severe flood, which under ordinary circumstances would have been yet another misfortune for a people under attack by Russia.

This time, though, it was a tactical victory. The Ukrainians flooded the village intentionally, along with a vast expanse of fields and bogs around it, creating a quagmire that thwarted a Russian tank assault on Kyiv and bought the army precious time to prepare defenses...

Russia has cut off gas to Poland, ostensibly for it not paying in rubles. But Poland, it turns out, is actually quite well prepared for this eventuality:

https://wapo.st/3voSBQV

..."We are prepared," Naimski said ... "We have the ability to bring enough gas to Poland, so that there is enough for everyone. We can remain calm."
