Home cooking during super inflation

Hey that idea of getting a clucker at Costco is great. Gotta go there tomorrow. Chikin prices are rising

Got one in the fridge now. They are good for 3 meals for the two of us, with my version of Chicken Rosemary somewhere in there usually.
Costco isn't far, and only 2 blocks from my physical therapy, so we combine trips.

"Recent figures indicate that there are more than 200 million insects for each human on the planet! A recent article in The New York Times claimed that the world holds 300 pounds of insects for every pound of humans."

I believe that we are one of the few societies that doesn't include them in our regular diet. Lotsa protein there...

We'll get 3 meals out of one too. Either from Costco or sam's Club. Last one will be lunch in the form of chikin salad. One of the main reasons of going to Costco is to get 2 packages of the individually frozen chicken breasts. We use them quite a bit for many different recipes for din-din. And with the chicken(Avian) flu the price is going to go pretty high soon and I think there will be shortages. The da**ed coyotes around here are trying to create a chikin shortage. We had 21 layers and in 2 months they've reduced the flock to 7. Reduced the coyote numbers by 5 and missed one this morning. I shot over him by a few inches...but he was at 75 yds. I wish I had a rifle...I held the Combat Masterpiece just a bit too high. I figured he was a 100 yds. The rangefinder later proved me wrong. I had a good solid rest too. I got a young one yesterday at about 20 yds with the S&W 41. The sucker looked like a small grey fox. One shot DRT

You are wrong in your belief that we don't include them in our daily diet. Just look at FDA regs that include tolerances for X number of insect parts in our food.

Take canned sweet corn for example:

PRODUCT:

Corn: Sweet Corn,
Canned

DEFECT:

Insect larvae
(AOAC 973.61)

ACTION LEVEL:

Insect larvae (corn ear worms, corn borers) 2 or more 3mm or longer larvae, cast skins, larval or cast skin fragments of corn ear worms or corn borer and the aggregate length of such larvae, cast skins, larval or cast skin fragments exceeds 12 mm in 24 pounds (24 No. 303 cans or equivalent)

In other word, it has to exceed the "Action Level" before it's considered to exceed allowed amounts. :(

If you want to look up your favorite food, like pureed tomatoes or popcorn, look here: Food Defect Levels Handbook | FDA :eek::eek:

We started keeping chickens a while back. I think the cost of eggs is up to about $6/dz. Never should have given them names!
There's some little girls in the neighborhood selling them for $2 /doz . Grocery store is double that .

Your drumstick looks a bit dry.

You can still get a Costco rotisserie chicken for $4.99. They taste great and yield at least 4 servings. Yum!
$4.99?! Maybe time for us to join up again! We like the rotisserie chickens, and use every bit, including the carcass for soup, but we're paying close to double that at the markets we use.

You know that's the best value in the whole store, and it's a major draw.

Just got one yesterday...!

The problem is that I go in for the $4.99 chicken, and end up spending $100-150 on other "stuff"....

No discipline I tell ya... :D

It's a shrewd business model lol

Pinto beans, good stock of wild rice and top of freezer full of meat bought when cheaper. Always have, always will make my own ice tea. Pretty soon even cheap food trucks will be to expensive to eat out at.

Have been through much leaner times, and like others could stand to lose some weight.
