Regarding ALL motion pictures between 1929 (the dawn of "talkies") through the turn of the millennium (December 31, 2000), what are the best or most enjoyable or most compelling music of a non-musical motion picture? You can rate them if you wish.

My best ones include:

- Tied for best "The Third Man" (Joseph Cotten, Trevor Howard - 1948) and "Tom Jones" (Albert Finney and Susannah York - 1963). Interestingly, both movie's music is composed nearly entirely for two unusual single instruments, zither and harpsichord respectively.

- "Lawrence of Arabia" (Peter O'Toole, Alec Guinness - 1962)

I don't know if this is what you are looking for BUT:

The theme music from "The Cowboys"
and the sound track from "Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead"

I've seen both movies dozens of times! And as a gag, my kids bought me the Babysitter sound track (on cassette). The music is much better than the movie!

Ivan

The recurring theme of The Great Escape, and The Men of Harlech in Zulu.

Too, too many to name:

Suspenseful?

Romantic?

Symphonic?

Epic?

Jazz?

Phrenetic?

Humorous?

And the very special
cateogory of Etc.?

Gladiator. Brilliant score.

One of my comfort movies (ie: a movie I can't help but watch, anytime it's on the TV) is The Martian. Love the way they blended in the disco.

And I don't particularly like disco. But it works in this setting.
