Old Motorcycle Movies

My first ride was a 47 Indian. What a hateful machine...on cold starts. After I sold it never went back to big bikes. Did have a good looking 650 Yamaha. Wife and I went everywhere on that thing...except no yard sales. My wife had and liked an old Honda 165 scrambler. It was easy for her to ride. But we lived in farm country. Not much traffic. Riding one day...we got surrounded by a black motorcycle group(Thunderguards). We got invited to a cookout get together when stopped at a light( I knew a couple fellows). it was enlightening. They had a bad rep...but they were nice to us. LOUD bikes though!!

Your post reminded me of "The Last Indian" with Anthony Hopkins. Good movie...

I'll bet I have seen Easy Rider well over a dozen times. It stirs emotions...

The soundtrack is like one of my early set lists.

"The Pusher" (Hoyt Axton) – 5:49
Steppenwolf - Steppenwolf (1968)

"Born to Be Wild" (Mars Bonfire) – 3:37
Steppenwolf - Steppenwolf (1968)

"The Weight" (Jaime Robbie Robertson) – 4:29
Smith (1969)

"Wasn't Born to Follow" (Carole King/Gerry Goffin) – 2:03

The Byrds - The Notorious Byrd Brothers (1968)

"If You Want to Be a Bird (Bird Song)" (Antonia Duren) – 2:35

The Holy Modal Rounders - The Moray Eels Eat The Holy Modal Rounders (1969)

"Don't Bogart Me" (Elliot Ingber/Larry Wagner) – 3:05

Fraternity of Man - Fraternity of Man (1968)

"If 6 Was 9" (Jimi Hendrix) – 5:35
The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Axis: Bold as Love (1967)

"Kyrie Eleison/Mardi Gras (When the Saints)" (Traditional, arranged by David Axelrod) – 4:00
The Electric Prunes - Mass in F Minor (1968)

"It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)" (Bob Dylan) – 3:39
Roger McGuinn (1969)

"Ballad of Easy Rider" (Roger McGuinn/Bob Dylan) – 2:14
Roger McGuinn (1969)

I understand the Robert Redford hated "Little Fauss and Big Halsey" so much that he is the reason it is rarely replayed. It doesn't offer much other than the racing scenes and some great acting by the late Michael J Pollard.

Driver: "Taking a trip?"
Bronson: "What's that?"
Driver: "Taking a trip?"
Bronson: "Yeah."
Driver: "Where to?"
Bronson: "Oh, I don't know. Wherever I end up, I guess."
Driver: "Man, I wish I was you."
Bronson: "Really?"
Driver: "Yeah."
Bronson: "Well, hang in there."

Not a move, but this show had a tremendous impression on me as a lad. Note the Eye of Providence on the tank.

,

This show was the reason first bike was a 1973 xlch with man start, no oil filter, grab and pray brakes.

All the biker movies I've seen are most corny, but some can be entertaining. Easy Rider was too good.

Tried to watch Sons of Anarchy, but couldn't gat past the first episode.

Steve had a good motorcycle scene in "The Great Escape"

True. That brief segment was far better than the total combined footage of Easy Rider, Electra Glide in Blue, and Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man. These three films were worth watching once but it would be hard to call any of the them memorable.

I remember watching "Easy Rider" on VHS in the early 80's

As dated as last month's bread, stale and moldy.

Some of the music was OK, but the rest, meh.

Of course, to put it in perspective, I was born 2 years before the movie came out, was never into motorcycles, and always though Dennis Hopper was a nutcase.

JMHO YMMV

While we're still on "Easy Rider"... Dennis Hopper's dud films easily outnumbered his good efforts. Peter Fonda was in very few films that were worth watching even once. Jack Nicholson made a string of bad movies in his early career. "Five Easy Pieces" around 1970 was no better than Easy Rider. He didn't do much that was worthwhile until he made good films like Chinatown and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest in the mid-'70s.
But, our tastes vary and they vary a lot.

Beyond the Law and Mad Max.

Rock Quarry. I understand your points but "One Hits Wonders" apply to movies as much as music.

BTW your forum name makes me think of the Flintstone. No offense ;). :)

Hardly, just listing my quantifiers.

That said, I think that Steppenwolf is a very underrated rock band.

Yes, they had a huge hit with "Born to Wild", and other biker related songs.

But they were also a political/social commentary band. And very talented as well.

And "Renegade" tells the story of singer John Kay's escape from East Germany to the West, where he eventually ended up in Canada.

A favorite JN movie is "The Shining". He played a psychopath so convincingly that I wondered if he was considered a suspect in some of Hollywood's unsolved murders LOL.

My best friend and I both read the Stephen King novel and saw the movie

After watching the movie, he remarked "In the book, Jack Torrance loved his family, but was overtaken by the evil at the Overlook Hotel. In the movie, JN's Jack Torrance looked like he was ready to drive their VW Beetle off the cliff and kill all of them in the 1st scene.

LOL

"The Wild Angels" with Peter Fonda. Not a great movie but had a lot of nice custom bikes.

The "Then Came Bronson" bike was an XLH with electric start. All the kick starts were fake. He used the electric. That year they came with kick and electric.
