People at gas stations, really?

Some time in the past I was waiting in line at the gas pumps. My line was moving (slowly) but the line next pump over was not and a L O N G line of vehicles were waiting. When I pulled up to my pump I looked over at the next pump and observed that the car's tank had been filled and the two males had broken out a basket and were eating their lunch.

Somehow, the virtue of standing up for one's rights when abused has been conflated with being selfish and inconsiderate of others.

People who make this mistake need to learn that simply doing what you want to do and the hell with everybody is the behavior of a bum.

I can't help it if you are stupid or have a low IQ.!!

When I get gas, I pull in to a pump............. LOCK my car and then
go give xxx amount of $$$ to the owner for gas on my pump station.

If you don't do this, unless you are in the state of Oregon, you are opening
your doors to the bad guys.

It is much worse at truck stops. Guys will fill up the truck and then go on the federally mandated 30 minute break right there at the pump. Or walk inside with a towel to go take a shower. But best of all is when the guy in front of you drives off, but still has the fuel nozzle stuck in the tank so he drives off with the whole hose.

I do the same thing except that there's never anything in my vehicle worth stealing. I'm more concerned when I come back out. There are too many robberies and carjackings while one is pumping their gas.

Drive aways ? I haven't seen a pump that wasn't card or prepay for good 20 years

And when i moved up here bout 25 yrs ago, ya could still buy ohio blue tips in the grocery store, only am radio at night, one hotel was famous for having hot water and there wasn't a Mickyds in town. They only went to requiring credit cards about a year or 2 ago.

My pickup takes diesel fuel and most stations have only one or two pumps which will dispense both gas and diesel fuel. I was told I was extremely rude for asking a woman to move her car if she was through getting gas because she was sitting in her car, talking on her phone, blocking access to the diesel pump.

Crazy folks everywhere.

...OK, I am done. Surely I am not the only person who sees this happen?

From my perspective, there seems to be a general decline in civility in our society. Many people think only of themselves, do whatever they want to do whenever they want to do it, and couldn't care less about other people. It manifests itself in many, many ways, but we see it all time, all around us... :(

Im guilty of putting the nozzle in and starting the pump then going in and buying a mt dew and using the bathroom.

There are cities/towns around here where you can be fined for leaving a running pump unattended. Not to mention the guys who will pull the nozzle out of your car and fill theirs.

Multitasking

I can still sleep at night

I have worked at 3 different gas station/garages over the years, and got gas at countless others and every pump has nozzles that do not have a hold open device on them. Possibly that is a NY state law, do not know. I have also got plenty of gas out of state but never noticed if they had hold opens as I'm well used to manning the nozzle.

Yes, NY doesn't have them. In which case the gas cap wedged under the trigger works just as well.

A different twist to this one from my observations this noon. I stopped at my local Kwik Trip gas station this noon for a sandwich and cup of coffee. As I sat in my vehicle eating lunch (in a parking spot ;) ) observing the foot traffic in and out almost everyone was being kind and polite to each other. Holding the door, letting elderly folks go first, ect.

The one thing most had in common was dirt on their clothes or boots and a company work shirt.

Or maybe just it's Minnesota nice.
