Fine wines-what is your favorite??

Here in Virginia, seems you can't throw a rock without hitting a winery. There's a lot of bad wine here…

Ohio has several good wineries but had two outstanding wineries. One, Kincaid Ridge, has ceased operations and been sold. The other, Markko Vineyards, is going through a bit of a revival. Arnie Esterer passed away but two of his nieces have taken over. We have gotten quite a few bottles of the Cabernet but my favorite was a blend Arnie called Revalation. He made it in the late sixties or early 70s. I have possibly the last four bottles. My wife and I served it at our wedding, we open a bottle on certain anniversaries.

Other very good wines include, Magnificat, The Prisoner and my wife's personal favorite, Manashevitz BlackBerry.

I lean more towards Italian red wines. My two favorite vineyards are Argiano and Reneiri.

Argiano Rosso di Montalcino
Argiano Brunello di Montalcino
Reneiri Re di Reneiri
Reneiri Rosso di Montalcino
Reneiri Brunello di Montalcino

When I was in college, we used to religiously watch The Avengers with John Steed and Mrs. Emma Peel. Whenever they would open a bottle of champagne, we would open a bottle of champagne and toast them. We would buy this incredibly cheap champagne called Cucamonga Champagne.

Like a red that tastes good chilled. Problem is I don't drink fast enough and the warmer the wine gets the nastier it tastes. Used to get a wine from Romania that the berries were picked after the first frost. Great stuff at either room temp or chilled.

My best advice would to be to try any wine and buy what you like best. Don't go by price or prestige, there are many fine moderately priced wines in the market. I prefer a Sauvignon Blanc but do enjoy a red wine on occasion.

My favorite was

My favorite wine is no longer available. Back in the 1970s era, in the 'Good Old Days', one of the top 10 rated wines in the world was an inexpensive California wine, called Gallo's Pink Chablis. It was vinted, and marketed, by the well-known vintner, Gallo, in California. It had a bit of effervescence, a hearty Chablis flavor, and a beautiful rosa color, It was one of the best commercial wines that I ever tasted. At the peak of its popularity, Gallo, dropped that great wine it from production. I never heard the reason for this. What a waste, for discriminate drinkers.
