Electric vehicles...

My daughter and SIL in California have a 2017 Nissan Leaf they use for a 25 mile daily commute - they charge it at home from 11 pm to 7 am. In 3 years, no problems of any kind. And no maintenance beyond tire rotation.

Bet they never figured the cost of charging........MIGHT bring a surprise to the face and wallet. Plus 8 hrs to charge? I can fill up with gas in 10 minutes and be a 1000 mi. away in that time. Ok for city hoppers I guess.

There is little doubt that electric cars are not road trip ready yet. However, I think those of you that live in the countryside might be surprised/appalled at the percentage of the US population that now lives in a urban/suburban environment. For those people, 95% or more of their travel needs are covered just fine with an electric vehicle they charge twice a week.

They've sold out.

Guess it wont be long before some State offers a buyback program for gas vehicles.

A catchy phrase could be "Cash for Guzzlers".

Then again you might have winos lining up.

Gov. already did that during the zero administration....Gov. was buying guzzlers and locking the engines with some kind of chemical........GOOGLE IT...Wasted tax $$ that didn't even cause a ripple in the pond.

The solution to gas prices and extortion from OPEC is an accelerated transition to wind and solar.

NO! Not if they open back up the pipelines and drilling....2 1/2 years ago we were energy independent. Then the current gov shut all that down...........People have VERY short memories.

To be correct the Gov was buying "Clunkers" which vastly depleted the used car market. A lot of these vehicles weren't necessarily "Guzzlers".

Their goal was get gasoline vehicles off the road....Didn't amount to squat.

Err, nope. Cash for Clunkers was aimed at stimulating new car sales and (hopefully) many of those vehicles would be more fuel efficient than the ones junked. Recall that the scheme was put in place in 2009, just after the banks nearly flushed the whole economy.

Worked out well for my buddy with a first model Dodge Grand Caravan that was nickel and dimeing him on a regular basis. He had already bought his wife an SUV so the Dodge went to have the motor filled with glass and he bought a new 4-banger Altima. It rode nicer than the Dodge, was quieter, and used about half as much gas on his commute. He was a happy camper.

No EV for me-

"We want you to buy a EV- but please don't charge them"

Said the head honcho of the late great.

Self aware don't fit some people at all..
