I just found this Python and I know very little about them. It is a beauty, not NIB but great condition with box etc. Edited and added - should be a 2022??

I'm not a Colt guy or a new gun guy, but this was very nice handling, but I just don't know if the price is good, bad or don't pass it up good. Price is $1150 with little if no wiggle room with 6% tax.

Could someone fill me in on this Python, what to look for and if I should jump on it. If I don't buy it and it seems to be a good deal I would be willing to pass the LGS info along. They will ship to a FFL.

Thanks

Oh my?
It's gone if you didn't jump on it.
Those MSRP for $1499 and are/were bringing up to $3k on Gunbroker.
Run back and get it, doubtful it's still there.
Mine with the service grips I changed it out to.

It's been there for a week, it's not your average gun shop and few but the locals would even think they sold guns. Does it matter what year it was made?

I thought a py2xxxxx was a 2nd yr gun? and didn't Davidsons just release those end of last year? Anyway, as said msrp 1499, and haven't been seeing anything new under 14, and the 3" have not cooled down yet….

Oh, I heard msrp was going up.

I paid much more for mine new but am quite happy with it. As a long time S&W shooter, I find the Colt trigger to be... different. Double action is very smooth but stacks a little, overall better than most SW DA. Single action is too heavy. It smooths out with use but the factory geometry has a little positive lift on the hammer which results in a heavier pull and a bit of creep. Overall much worse than SW in SA. Heavily ribbed narrow trigger is strange but ok. Big hammer spur is nice.

I would buy a second one at that price.

Yes, they are still going for MSRP or higher, even with the lower enthusiasm since they have been out for a few months. A solid buy if you have the funds and want one.

I don't really want one though it is a really nice gun. I did miss a four inch some 50 years ago that still bothers me. I would get it only if it was a good enough deal to either sell after shooting it a bit or trading at some point. Sounds like a good deal and I could probably get my money back out of it but not a whole lot more. I will check it out closely tomorrow and inquire more as to the previous owner. He is another S&W collector that I don't know as of yet but is well known to the gun shop. If anyone has an interest in the gun feel free to PM me.

Thanks for help.

That's a new model Python, and they're very nice revolvers. Colt released the 3" models this year, at least that's when they started showing up at the gun stores. As others have mentioned, that's an awesome price, and it's in like-new condition.

I bought a 3" Python earlier this year, as well as a 4", and would definitely buy another at that price. Fit and finish are nice on these Pythons. If you've got the extra cash, I'd jump on it. YMMV

My LGS had a LNIB 3" New Python on consignment at $1600 a few months ago. They then got in 4" and 3" NIB New Pythons at $1499 each. To his credit, the consignee dropped his price to $1200. I checked it out (it's still there as of this afternoon) and the single action pull was terrible--heavy (5-7 lbs) and with definite creep. I passed. You would probably want to check out your local offering.

The NIB New Pythons also had creep--pass.

Yes, it was made in 22 and yes, it's a steal at $1150! Paid a lot more for mine.

$1150 is below wholesale. Wonder if the dealer took it in used, but still NIB.
Your grips are so much nicer than my originals.

That is an absolute steal. Three inch guns are allocated and very hard to get. If that was local to me I'd have snagged it in a heartbeat.

Yes, that is a very good deal on a desirable revolver. If I didn't buy the new King Cobra recently, I'd be asking you where in Vermont it is…..:) Best regards!

A contrary view: Who sells a pistol only a few months old and takes at least a five hundred dollar hit on it? A consignment piece, right?, so the dealer is making at least the dollars over a grand.

...That says displeasure with it, to me.

Camster & all:

I'm wondering the same thing. But the previous owner is a S&W guy and we are talking a small town and I know the owners and workers in the "shop" so don't think they would intentionally sell me a problem, but they may not know themselves. I'm going to check it out again shortly. I have a hard time buying something I don't collect or need just because it is a decent price. Also know I might not want to get rid of it so there goes a Smith I could have bought. Maybe it will b gone and problem solved.
