I posted some iPhone photos of this gun on the SWCA side of the forum and got some help from Roy and members on sorting this one out (another plug to join the SWCA). It left the factory in May 1971 and shipped to Switzerland with a 5" barrel. Some time after arriving in Switzerland, someone fit it with a 7" barrel (most likely a 8 3/8" barrel cut with the front sight replaced). Thanks to the super sleuthing of Paul, one of our forum members who lives in Germany, it was determined that this 27-2 was beautifully engraved by Erich Boessler, a master engraver who lived in or near Bischofsheim/Rhön (Rhön is a mountain range in Bavaria and Hessen).

Recently it made its way back to the United States where I was lucky enough to purchase it. The grips on it when I received it were underwhelming to say the least, so I fit a beautiful pair of KB smooth targets to it - they are there to stay. :) I then dug through my unassigned gun boxes and found a plain blue box that perfectly fit this beauty.

The other day, I had the good camera out and snapped some photos - here are a few for your viewing pleasure:

On top of the box - I like the look of the "blue on blue"...

... then what it would have looked like if it shipped in the box, the box opened, the vapor paper pealed back and the gun was viewed for the first time...:):D:cool:

... and a few of the finer details...

... and a few more of the special touches that I love.

As always, I welcome your observations, thoughts and comments.

Thank you for letting me share,

That one is truly special, and it's not easy to rise to "special" in your collection. Have you ever seen any others done by Boesler? Just wondering if he used that same motif elsewhere? Either way, beautiful engraving. Love the gun.

Another spectacular gem, Richard! One thing I find quite interesting on this gun is that many engravers try to incorporate the turn line in their engraving pattern so it is hidden. This gentleman went the opposite direction and kinda highlighted this section of the gun by his lack of engraving. I find that fascinating. It is definitely a great addition to the "Richard Museum"! Love it.

The masterpieces you find never cease to amaze. I like the way the engraving seems to spiral around the barrel and ejector shroud. I'm glad to see that you just happened to have a set of KBs laying around too.
