My addiction to S&W 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Gen is a mental disorder

Well, red tape delayed my Christmas present, but i should get it next week from my daughter. I have already replaced the mag springs in my 6 mags when I had my last 6906 (that I stupidly let go!). I bought new OEM S&W hammer, recoil, and extractor springs from Midway USA to redo it once I get it. I also had a NIW factory grip in my stuff. if it is beat up.

My 6906 is a favorite CCW. I have the adapter to use the higher capacity 5900 series mags, which carry 3 more rounds. It's a very accurate and easy to shoot pistol.

It comes in right behind my 4516 as a cold weather carry weapon. Shield 45 is my Summer gun. (Mostly)

Congratulations!

I too am a S&W 3rd gen addict...this is a pic of my S&W gun safe....all S&W 3rd gens...most are new/old stock. The S&W performance metal cases have 2-3 performance center 3rd gen pistols in each...

Happy Holidays
Cheers!!!
David

Wow! Awesome!

The ONLY pistol that comes close to the 6906 as far as me shooting it quickly and accurately is the Browning HI-Power MK III I have.

OP, you have a good daughter that goes out of her way to get you gifts that you really enjoy!!

Like you, I like metal framed Smith semi-autos regardless of generation. The 69 series is probably my favorite. Pics below of my 669 and 6906 and my 469 and 6904 (two of each).

6906 and 3913s are still good guns all these 35 years later.

they still do exactly what they were designed to do, so their age is irrelevant. I have 2 5906s and a 6906.

BTW, you can recut the mag catch notch in the MecGar Beretta 92c 15 round magazines, and they will work in a 6906. 15+1 rounds instead of 12+1.

This post was a godsend. I was afraid I was getting a bit obsessed with Smiths, but as I only have 10 (in 9mm) I'm relieved. (But then there are the other six in 40 & 45....hmmmmm.)
Apparently, I have much to aspire to, but plenty of available inspiration, ;)

It is keeping me broke. I work for store credit. Actually, I am an indentured servant, never paying off my ever growing gun balance. In the last 5 or 6 weeks, a 4506, a Browning Hi-Power MNK 3, a Walther P-38, and an M1 Carbine! Those will be paid off around the first of the year!

Perhaps the new obsession should be selling some of your acquisitions for the best profit you can make. After all, you work in the best place to learn how its done, and everyone has to balance the books sooner or later, ;)

That's pretty much what I do. Some things I buy to keep, some to enjoy and use for awhile - then sell, and some strictly as liquid investments. In last the last month or so, I sold off about $4,000 in acquisitions to help fund a remodel on one of my rentals that went over budget.

I have a lot of fun doing it, though!

I use 5906 mags with a +2 adapter to get 15 rd spare mag(s).

So I'm 12+1 plus 15 or 30.

That's the one................... first came out when 459s had 14 rd mags. vs the newer 15 rd ones.

They work well
I agree, have a couple. I did not realize they dated back that far. Got them b/f I started finding 6906 magazines at gun shows, now I have too many. For anyone else, a comparison pic:

IF Smith brings back a 3rd Gen...
I would think a 6906 with 12, 15, & 17 Rds included would be the best seller.
Would be nice if some versions were decocker only

You can never have "too many"!

Don't remember if I had any/many back in the 469 days. Do know my stash has 14rd mags with the +2 mounted.

I have been a shooter and gun enthusiast for over 60 years. When I was a kid, the Browning Hi-Power and Walther P38 were my dream guns. (I of course now own one of each!)

I have 20+ years law enforcement, and 7 years military. Much of that time, I was a firearms instructor, evaluator, competitor, and rangemaster. I have shot probably several hundred different firearms in that time.

I shot one of the first Glocks in the US in 1982, and liked it. It is a good Law Enforcement tool, and superbly easy to teach new shooter with. I also shot a "toolroom" pre-production S&W 469 around the same time, and also loved it.

I an NOT impressed, however, with were handgun design and production has gone. Gen V Glocks have become too complicated, when simplicity is what made them great tools. Pistols are getting too lumpy and bumpy, with sharp edges (i/.e Hellcat, XD9). Handguns are loosing the sleek lines of Glock Gen I/II, and 3rd gen S&Ws.

Even Ruger took its thin, sleek, and compact LC9 (which is a superb pocket pistol) and enlarged it and gave it sharp edges! What are they thinking? Some of the designs look like they were made by an Artsy-Fartsy design team!

Even the Glock 26, while a good weapon, is too chunky. (I sold my Glock 26 as soon as I found out i was getting my last 469, which is now being replaced by the better 6906!)
