Coming to blue state near you

Not if you vote them out. If you can't, then you are out of step with your neighbors who must like that stuff. But that's easy for me to say from out here in the low-tax, sparse govt services mountain West.

NY is funny. There is New York City , Buffalo and Albany. The rest of the state is Alabama. I live in Erie Co ( same as Buffalo). My town is red as red can be. But all these major cities are packed with free loaders on the entitlement train as well a union members in both public and private sector. They all vote blue. I have nothing against unions , I'm just pointing out that members will not bite the hand that feeds them. Even if they're gun owners and hunters. It's to bad.

I live in rural mountain SE New Mexico, a state blue as blue. My county is politically red 'little Texas,' like most of NM south of I-40 and east of I-25. Local officeholders are all Rs. Just a local variation on your same theme.

A lot of us live with that reality: a Red rural district with high density Blue population areas. Here in Florida, we have 67 counties. Six typically vote Blue, the other 61 are typically Red. The combined population of those six Blue voting countries is almost that of the other 61 countries. And we have a bit over 22M residents, with some 15M registered voters…….we're still Red…. For now…..

Plus ....... Snapper, Snook, Hogfish and beaches/boats full of bikinis.
Surf's up on a strong North West wind near Hillsboro Inlet. :D

Don't forget Humidity, Hurricanes and Alligators in every little nook and cranny that holds water...

If you have proper saddles to ride the insects I guess that's a positive...

So, you got that going for ya... !! :)

Like GypsmJim, I was born and grew up in New York City.

I fled to Washington. it was great I could own all of the guns I was denied by NY. I own a business here and my wife has family here. I cannot flee, and can only vote and contribute to SAF to fight in the courts.

Some people in free states don't realize that the people that ruined CA, NY, OR, and WA can and do move to free states and bring their voting habits with them.

I never said NYC. I said NY State. If I had come from the city I surely would have moved, right after puberty.

If you look at a map of the USA, NY is blue. If you look at a map of NY it's overwhelmingly red. The little blue dots are NYC, Albany and Buffalo City. The problem is that the population of NY CITY is half the state and thus they dictate the politics. All my friends and neighbors are gun toting conservatives. And as a matter of fact, we all WORK (OMG a 4-letter word), pay taxes and don't collect welfare.

Occasional tornado and humidity is not what we're talking about here. It's much bigger than that. It's about govt intervention in your life. Dictating how you live. Taxing you to death. Then funding massive entitlement programs. New Jersey governor at one point was trying to figure out an "exit tax" because residents were leaving in droves. Just think about that for a min. An "exit tax". Ex NY Governor Cuomo wanted to dictate what size soda New Yorkers could by. Because they want to control everything. NY became known as the Nanny State. I disagree. It's become a dictatorship.

They're trying to emulate the Feds. They impose an exit tax if you renounce your citizenship.

You just described Illinois. The Democrat governor easily won reelection last month. But he only carried 13 of the 102 counties in the state. But when one of those 13 is Cook County ( Chicago), and half the people in the state live in Cook County......it's game over.

I hope I'm wrong, but I expect HB5855 to pass easily in the lame duck session first week of January.

HB5855 appears to be a done deal, governor and his representatives have sided with the suburban soccer moms and the city of chicago.

Lived here in ESL most my life, can't really move with Mom still here and having been hospitalized twice in the last year so we're stuck.
Have noticed that a similar bill is under fire in New Jersey at the moment and I doubt southern IL will let the Chicago/Springfield syndicate have their way, and have no doubt the ISRA will be stepping in as well.
In the meantime, I'll just wait and watch.
Besides trying any sort of confiscation in St. Clair county would be a good show. 😆🙄

I love it.
1) I ain't dying in NJ, been back maybe 5 times in 43 years.
2) It's "Winter cold" this morning, got down to 48* last night. Needed an extra blanket.
3) We count our votes day of election. Seems to work better than most.
4) My carry permit # starts with "88", the year of issue and exactly half my lifetime. The Gov says "Constitutional carry" WILL happen on his watch. I don't much care because there are enough folks who shouldn't handle sharp knives in the kitchen let alone their new Glock but I am about more freedom.
5) No state income tax. The .gov (all levels) confiscate enough wealth and are still just "one more tax increase from nirvana" but Florida is fiscally sound.
6) My property tax on a 4 bed/3bath/3car garage was $1800 this year. I do get a $50K "exemption" because I live in it.
7) We don't got no stinking rules against magazine capacity, "evil black rifle features," registration etc. You do need to wait 3 days for a handgun if you don't have a CWP, even if you're mad right now.

It ain't Heaven but it will do down here. Joe

We have just learned that no more legislative action will be taken this evening. It will be taken up in the Senate's Executive Committee Monday at 9 AM.

I'm a blue steel and walnut gun person, but even so. Now I know what it feels like to live under an oppressive government.

Well, Illinois' constitutionally learned legislators passed HB 5471, which was efficiently signed immediately for our protection by our benevolent governor.

The new law is not quite as oppressive as some of the former bills, so we do not all become felons immediately--we are now expected to be grateful that we are not abused as badly as we could have been. Yeah, so we have to register our "assault weapons". We are assured that that is supposed to make us all feel safer. The European WWII survivors I knew who saw the Nazi occupiers go down to the police stations and grab the lists of registered gun owners might disagree, but they're mostly dead now and so don't count.

We are supposed to believe that crime will be deterred because all the criminals and crazies are covered by the registration law as well. Little problem there--IIRC the US Supreme Court held 50 years or more ago that a prohibited person has a 5th Amendment right to decline declaring that he/she/it/they have a firearm.

Just feelin' sooooo much safer now. Nuff said; don't need another ding.

WHY????? The ship is sinking, get off! The house is burning down, get out! Larry

Once you stop fighting and start running, where do you stop?

Don't say your red state can't go blue...there are too many examples of that already happening. What do you do then, pick up and leave again? Eventually you will run out of places to run to.

Further, the more states you give up as lost the worse the balance at the Federal level will get. If the balance shifts far enough, eventually these kinds of bans will become Federal and then it will apply to everyone.

I live in Commiefornia. A very red area of CA, but CA none-the-less. I have seen the changes. I also have property in a more conservative state, and keep some toys there that are not allowed here. But I really love CA...as an area. The mountains, the valleys, the beaches, the recreational areas, the Deserts, etc. It is a shame to give all of that up as "lost".

No, it may suck in some ways, but I am not running away.

T!

Just signed in for the first time since May of 2019 to see if you all had a thread about this. Ugh, this state. Immediate stop on buying "assault weapons" and "high cap" mags now. Common use and everything else out the window. They really didn't want people to stock up before they put the screws to them.

I guess our best hope is that this gets smacked down in the court, but I'm sure that legal battle will last years.

I'm sure when Chicago doesn't magically fix their gun crime in 2-3 years they'll complain this didn't go far enough (or just blame Indiana and Wisconsin... again) then try to tighten the screws down some more.

12.6 million live in Illinois. Cook county (which Chicago resides in) has 5.2 million, and counties contiguous with Cook have about a combined almost 4 million. A lot of those almost 9 million total are dependent on Chicago and it's suburbs for their jobs. Unfortunately they're all mindless robots that vote as peer pressure demands. If you and yours are stuck in amongst the misled 9 million I don't mean to insult you but I'm in N.W. Indiana 30 miles from Chicago. People from Chicago and it's surrounding suburbs are moving here in droves. They are in no way having a positive effect on life here.

They will comply if the penalty is severe enough. Large fines and prison time will have the huddled masses obeying the law.
Making AR15s and 11 round magazines illegal is no different than in the 30s when they made machine guns illegal. Larry

You can't practically imprison several hundred thousand people in Illinois alone, nor millions nationwide. That's a prescription for insurrection.

Regarding the NFA, in the 30's there wasn't a Thompson in every second house. AR's are much more widespread- millions of them nationwide. So the analogy fails.
