Today BATF returned 2 more stolen firearms from my 30 March 2021 robbery in which 25 of my firearms were taken.

After the return of these I now have 13 back in my possession and 2 still in evidence.

All were recovered as apart of a traffic stop, car accident or warrant. None were used against anyone.

Here in Pittsburgh, they were trying to stop the police from traffic stops for bad inspections, outdated registration, pot smoke coming out the windows, and other minor infractions. They were concerned because too many people were getting busted for illegal guns, large quantities of hard drugs, etc., and too many people were getting arrested as a result of the traffic stops. They stopped that & went back to normal, thank goodness. The newest mayor was concerned that too many young people of Pittsburgh were getting arrested. Duh!! I won't elaborate...
Glad you got some of your guns back.

Only gun I had stolen Was many years ago. Dan Wesson Vent Heavy 22 Pistol Pak. never heard a word about it. I even know who stole it...but can't prove it. I also have a shotgun I bought from the original owner that was reported stolen by his family. Happily I had the receipt. Glad some get returned by the police. I wonder if stolen guns get returned to owners in places like NYC or Chicago?? intact I mean!

even if marajuana is legal in your state, smoking and driving is still driving under the influence, or driving while intoxicated. Cold meds are legal, but you can't down a bottle of nyquil and go for a joy ride.

A traffic stop presents a cornucopia of opportunities.
Check for license, registration, insurance, warrants, impairment, contraband, etc. A fine opportunity to get a lot of bad actors off the streets.

Hopefully you’ll be able to reblue to cover up the evidence number engraved upon them . . .

growr, I am sure this brings a measure of satisfaction for you and for that I am happy for you.

Ten years ago I had a Ruger Standard stolen from me the was given me by dad in 1971 for my HS graduation. It was a learning experience as my carelessness was partly to blame.

Maybe some day...

That's good news! Glad you are able to get some of them back.

I worked with a paramedic who went on to become a state trooper. I'd run into him from time to time and we'd talk. I once mentioned how often I'd her a trooper make a stop and end up with an arrest for outstanding warrants, stolen property, drugs, unlicensed possession of a gun, and so on.

He said that criminals break laws out of habit. So, someone driving an unregistered car, turns out to have a revoked license, has a warrant, gets arrested, car gets towed, trooper conducts an inventory search, finds drugs, driver get arrested for possession with intent to sell.

All because the trooper stopped him for having a brake light out.

Check out a show called OnPatrol, featured on Reelz. They follow about 8 depts all across the fruited plain every show. A film crew accompanies LE.

Drunks, meth, crack, suspended license, no license, warrants, stolen cars, you name it.

In a recent segment in FL, a biker got pulled over for not signaling a lane change. The officer ran him, and found a warrant. Cuffed and sitting on the curb.

The biker called his nephew to come get the bike, he had no DL and also a warrant. Cuffed and sitting on the curb.

The mother of the biker was then called to come get the bike. SHE had a warrant :D, can’t make this up. A 3fer. :p

Great show. Airs Friday and Saturday nights.

Montana doesn't electro pencil any case numbers on firearms. What a relief that is!!

BATF DID however issue a new serial number for my BHP that had the SN covered with JB weld. The gunsmith easily cleaned it up and there was NO alteration done.

ATF had already issued a new SN and insisted that it be engraved as such.

This essential point is lost on so many people these days: Criminals break the law; it's what they do.

Former Baltimore Police Commissioner Ed Norris used to laugh when the enlightened would suggest that we could turn criminals away from crime if they just had jobs...

"They HAVE jobs"...Norris would say..."They're criminals...that's their job! It doesn't have a real good pension plan, but it's what they've decided to do for a living..."

LOL, so true. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. swsig was a psychologist who would occasionally test prisoners for the Sheriff's Department. She asked one prisoner what he did for a living, and he answered, "I am a thief!" He was quite proud of his skills, and after eyeing the lock on her office door, said, "I could pick that in seconds." Then back to jail he went, apparently unaware of the discrepancy between his professed skills and the location of his current residence.

In the West Baltimore neighborhood where I worked, we had drug dealers who'd been shot who went right back to selling drugs as soon as they could. A friend who was a nurse at the Shock-Trauma Center downtown used to refer to "frequent flyers"...patients who'd been treated there more than once for gunshot wounds.

For most of us, being shot once would be a powerful wake-up call that we need to change our lifestyle...but if you're a career criminal, you do what you do...

I once had a problem with a gun safe at our gun club..it was a Treadlock with a S& G combo lock I had an acquaintance who had been a crook in a earlier life. He picked the lock on that safe in under 3 minutes. He worked for a locksmith among other things. Fabulous welder. We kept no guns in it...papers and shotgun shells. Still using that safe. The lock pick stayed out of jail but drank himself to death after a few years. One of the most talented people with his hands I ever knew. He kinda lived off the land...made his likker and shot deer to eat with a 222 Contender.
