Who here with a 646 has had a second 686 cylinder bored and reamed to chamber 10mm?

"Because it's very good." Don't think so. Will stay with my 610 and have no need of a second cylinder.

Sweet.

To be clear, you have not done as queried per the original post?

A 10mm would blow up a 646 cylinder. That's why S&W didn't make those in 10MM.

As Protocall Design stated S&W probably feels the same. Not good to have customers guns blowing up.

Try it yourself and let us know how it works out.

Could be, but the question wasn't about S&W's feelings.

Agreed, though no one was arguing otherwise, and again, not the question asked.

If you don't have the requisite experience to answer the question posed in the OP, do not feel compelled to volunteer a response.

Then try it yourself and report back the findings with pictures. Have a good day.

Neither S&W nor I would officially recommend it, but it has been done. I remember an experienced shooter named Tamara years ago on The High Road Forum whose gunsmith reamed her titanium cylinder to 10 mm. Let me search: Okay:

S&W 646 conversion to 10mm about to begin | The High Road

There are also plenty of threads out there in the netverse that say don't do it, but not much of that is based on trying it.

I'm too chicken myself.

Not having a dog in this fight, but,,,,,,
I do have a 646 & 646PC. I've wondered the same about cutting a plentiful 686 cylinder for .40S&W. Just as a backup for the titanium factory cylinder. Maybe one of the unfluted cylinders?
The thought of 10mm in a "L" frame? I think the "L" frame has proven itself as a big-bore in the FIVE shot M69. Remember though that the M69 has a beefed-up two piece barrel. If the factory team recognizes a resurgence in 10mm popularity, the obvious platform is there. Ruger, anyone?
Back to the O.P. though, I searched & waited for my M646's. Rare enough that I won't risk them.
