OVERUSED WORDS!

Any time I talk on the phone with people decades younger about an appointment or with customer service and answer a question, they always reply--

"Awwwwwwsome"
or
"Perrrrrrrfect"

I did not know I am so great! :D

"Absolutely" There isn't many things that are absolute in this world.

Our last Prime Minister’s favourite word, as in “I absolutely reject that premise ! Absolutely”

She has degree in media and communications and spoke this way constantly. I Kidd you not.

The other one is those people who start ever sentence with the word “So, …………”

"At"
As in; where are you at?
An indicator of a poor grasp of language at its best . . .

I believe it's " Where's you at?"
Not " Where are you at?"

My pick:
The one that bothers me is the constant insertion of the word "..Right!.."
into conversation over and over again.

'Right!'.. has been inserted into most all media, talking head, round table conversation that goes on now.
In the middle of a sentence, inbetw sentences,, anywhere in the conversation where you can suddenly stop and just exclaim ..Right!..
Seems to be a personal way of agreeing with yourself and your views while still talking about them.

I will be the first to admit to being one of the last ones to get on board the proper language use & spelling train, but this one is really annoying.
I may even stop my 30min of TV watching per day.

"SAFETY."

The new leftist term to trump the US Constitution and Bill of Rights.

It took over for "Its for the Children."

A citizen's rights, according to the left, can be taken away in the name of "SAFETY."

Reminds us of the quoted attributed to Benjamin Franklin:

"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

So many awesome (sorry, just couldn't help myself) entries here that it is a challenge to come up with something not yet mentioned.

But I will take a shot.

"Just sayin'." That is one that I find most aggravating. When I hear or read it, my impression is of someone who wants to run their mouth, but does not want to bear responsibility for what they have said.

To further the thread drift, here is a non-verbal conversational gesture that equals, without sound, the worst of the worst set forth here: Air quotes. Just can't stand 'em. With decades of public speaking and teaching behind me, I have used quotes countless times. I attribute the source then state the quoted material. No cutesy-poo fingers in the air.

When I ascend to the status of 'influencer' I will use that influence to ban both of these. However, I am stymied as to how to become an influencer so not much progress there.

I agree with the folks who remark about opening a sentence with "So..."

Very close to this are these folks that constantly open their take with "well I feel like" and it's all I can do to not be horrified that everyone is putting their feelings ahead of all manner of things far more important than one's feelings.
