NE Ohio Spring Bunch April 15th 2023

Don't want to do a 'want to buy' ad. In my travels at shows I'll be looking for K/L square & round and N square & round. Doesn't matter if blue, SS, or nickel. A sideplate would be nice but not absolutely necessary. Just need it intact in the frame/grip area.

I got a 'supply' of grips that I want to 'sand down' the sharp edges to smooth rounded surfaces.

My father and I went to the OGCA show early yesterday morning. We arrived right as they opened at 8:30am. The parking lot was nearly full and we expected to wait in line to enter but walked right in. I must say it was extremely well organized, props to the promoters. Once inside, there was quite a crowd and it was a bit congested in spots. I believe they need a bigger venue but it wasn't all that bad, I have been to shows that were much harder to navigate.

I was of course looking for 3" Smiths, Kimber of Oregon Custom Classics and Remington Model 700 Classics. No Remingtons or Kimbers that I saw, less than a dozen Smiths, none that I was looking for. I did see four or five from the NEO Bunch in attendance.

Prices in my opinion were quite high although I have not been quite as active in the past two years since my heart problems. Overall I think the show was a success and hope the OGCA returns again.

Best regards, Bob.

I was at the OGCA show early Saturday Morning as well. A little crowded at that time. Prices rather high on Smiths. Went back at noon on Sunday. Not crowded, easy to walk through. Picked up some .358 Win. Ammo. Talked to some of the bunchers that were there. The good thing was that they will have two shows at the IX Center in Cleveland next year. Not sure of the dates as of now.

When is the fall "Bunch"?

Denny, if you or any of the bunchers would like to join OGCA I would be happy to sign for you, or them. You would need two OGCA members to sign for membership. We can talk about that at the Fall bunch.

That's a great idea Bo...hey organizers any idea when the date of the fall "Bunch" will will be? I heard some "chatter" that maybe it would be good to have it in August BEFORE all the gun shows start in September...THAT would definitely increase attendance...just my opinion...Roger

And potentially decrease it because of family vacations/travelling that occurs up until Labor Day.
The earliest fall bunch was Sept.13,2014. There has been 5 Sept bunches, & 8 Oct bunches.

Just FYI Denny: the "chatter" about having it in August came FROM one of the current organizers and I agree with him...Roger

Not sayin it shouldn't be in August, I would attend.
There's currently 3 open Saturdays on the NOSC August calendar page.

Berea show is Aug 26 & 27.

Even though I stated i would attend an August bunch, I would still prefer Sept/Oct.

I always looked at the Berea, Medina and OGCA schedules in September and October then looked at the NOSC open Saturdays. Usually only 2 were open with nothing going on for us. Then contacted someone with the calendar password to schedule our day. Tulsa was usually November and I believe march. Berea doesn't have dates too far in advance so I would email them to see the dates they had booked in the months needed. Didn't use November because small game hunting began at the beginning. I tried to do this in June so there was time to book a Saturday and advertise it August 1. Saturdays go quickly at NOSC, the earlier the better. Larry

Since there's 3 months till we hit August, do some sort of survey of bunch attendees to see if they'd be open to an August bunch or if they'd be against it. Let them tell you if it would work.

Went to the Tuesday morning open shoot at the NOSC club this morning. I had some testing to do to compare Rem 1 1/2 small pistol primer vs Rem 7 1/2 small rifle primer. The Rem 7 1/2 SR primer is an AR15/223/5.56 primer because of its' thicker metal cup. Since I have no firearm that would use the Rem 7 1/2 primer, that put me at a surplus on hand of about 5K of them. Tested 38sp in a M586 4" and a M36-1 3".I had 38sp target loads (many previously made/on hand) of 1 1/2 primer, 4.5grs-SR7625, and Speer 158gr lead semi-wadcutter. So I made up some identical loads except using the Rem 7 1/2 SR primer instead of the Rem 1 1/2 primer.
Targets were at 50ft/16-17yrds. Tested first the M586, One of the std followed by one with the 7 1/2 primer. There was no felt perceived difference and placement on target was same so no difference in velocity. Fired 5 more of the test rounds for an overall, no change in recoil or placement. Tested second was the M36, same results as with the M586. Recoil and placement equal to the standard load.
Also of concern was firing pin pressure to ignite the thicker cup, all were OK.
I can't speak for other brands so who knows if there would be a change.
But for me, a repetitive question on this forum in the reloading area is 'can SR primers be substituted for SP primers.
Next testing will be in 9mm, maybe next Tuesday.
