in mid-September, and moving to acreage in western NC. Yesterday he bought himself a lightly used S&W M&P 15 to wreak havoc on the coyotes that currently call his place home. He walked into the house with it and his recently retired teacher wife flipped out. He bought a E.B.R.!! She told him to return it, she wouldn't have it in her home.

He tried to return it, but the shop didn't want to accept it as their inventory is flush with used AR's. He brought it by my house to ask if I would purchase it. While it was in VGC, I didn't want another one. I offered to swap the furniture for a grey set I had taken off a PSA carbine. I showed him how to do that, swapped his carry handle for a Tru-Glo red dot, swapped him a grey Amend 2 twenty round mag for the evil thirty round mag and installed a sling. He took that back home and showed it to his wife. She was pleased and suggested THIS was the rifle he should have purchased to begin with. The grey is obviously less dangerous than the formerly black version. I encouraged him to research some optics and buy one A.S.A.P.

Interesting story. You did a fine job: I bet you didn't think it would have that much of an effect on his frau! I've seen similar things at our range in NYC. Guys would finish shooting and then sit at a table cleaning their handgun. I gently asked a couple of these men why; they said their wife wouldn't let them clean the gun at home...

Perfectly understandable. If one is to believe newspaper accounts, almost all gun-related accidents occur when cleaning the gun. Cleaning a gun is probably the most dangerous thing one can do with one. Ranks right up there with "just starting to turn his life around."

His wife has been tasked with active shooter training at her school for the last few years; both with teachers and as a LE liaison. She is scared and exhausted of it all.

I believe if he can kill off the herds of groundhogs and rabbits on his property the majority of the coyotes will move on. That M&P was in fine condition. He did well.

That makes it even worse. She is doing active shooter training, but doesn't understand the firearm at all. Same gun, but gray is ok. Scary that this woman is a teacher.

Reminds me of the comment another wife made to mine one time. She was a friend of our friends that we were visiting - a 3-couples dinner party.
I excused myself to go out on their deck to have a smoke. This gal says to my wife
"Why don't you MAKE him stop smoking?"
My wife's reply?
"He's a GROWN MAN! I can't MAKE him do ANYTHING!"
She's definitely a keeper. :D
We've been happily married for nearly 37 years, and that is at least in part due to the fact that she realizes that she can only INFLUENCE me - she recognized early on that she can't FORCE me to do anything I don't want to do, so she isn't even going to try!
Too bad every guy isn't so fortunate!

thank the lord my partner understands it is the person controlling the trigger that is the problem, not the hardware. She's been an educator for close to 30 years. She even has her own rifle, and I'm building her a lefty Ruger 22 pistol.

I once had one of those Remington VTR15s that came hydro dipped from the factory. When I took it over to a buddy's house to show it to him, his fiancée, who knew very little about guns, when told it was an AR, said, "But it's a hunting gun cause it's camo, right?" Like somehow the color determined the use. I guess that makes a red Corvette a fire engine.

The anti-gun news media and organizations take intelligent, rational thinking adults and turn them into brainwashed automatons. Too bad that it takes deception, rather than facts, to change their thinking.

You can't fight emotional reactions with logic.
The MSM, Hollyweird, and some people in the government have played on people's emotions on this topic to the point that logic is completely out the window.

That is certainly the trend nowadays. When science, logic, facts and reason are brought to bear, the lefties start the name calling (screaming), i.e. racist, homophobe, nazi and fascist come to mind.
