When it comes to shooting handguns women seem to have "natural talent" 10X men. A mystery but I have witnessed it time and again. Congrats on the permits, great to have even if the state doesn't require them. Joe

I have seen this as well. But I think it's because they listen to suggestions by whoever is teaching them. Men have more difficulty doing this.

Like RGP and Protocall_Design, have said, it seems to be true. When Miss Judy and I were first dating over fifty-one years ago, I took her out shooting. She'd never really shot a gun before. I let her fire my pistol. I was surprised to say the least. She out-shot me by a HUGE margin. At first I thought she was "sand-baggin'" me by saying she'd never shot a handgun, but it was true. She still out-shoots me with a handgun...but she has her own now.:)

AGH!!!!!

I've found that women take firearms training better than men.

Men seem to imagine that they know much more than they do. Watching westerns and shootemups seems to make them think they are born with shooting skills.

I NEVER get lessons from movies or TV. But I've been shooting a long time, do a fair amount of study and reload my own, so I could probably claim a hard head when it comes to training.

I think what I get from all my experience and knowledge is that I can shoot all kinds of guns, revolvers, lever actions, bolt rifles, carbines, semi-pistols, ARs and several types of shotguns half as well as if I concentrated on two or three.

men are hampered by machismo. I got schooled very early on by a woman in her mid 20s. It turns out she was a national junior 3P rimfire champ 3 years in a row, and she is a consumate elk huntress. I always listen to her or her sisters at the range.

Yes, but this doesn't always hold true if their husband is doing the teaching! I've witnessed it too many times and usually tell guys to have someone else instruct their wife, ESPECIALLY when she's holding a loaded gun! ;)

Gentlemen,

15 years ago my wife wanted do a course for the acquisition of a hunting permit (she has much contact with foresters in her job). I offered her to visit a range with me and some of my handguns to see whether shooting suits her at all. It was the first time she fired a live weapon.

Result: She has a hunting license, she owns some rifles, she owns a S&W 696 (which I gave to her as a gift for passing the hunting course) and a Les Baer 1911 (which I gave to her as a wedding day gift). Every time we are at the range she shoots 100 rounds with each of the two handguns, and then she asks for some of mine...

I can only confirm everything that has been said here about women and weapons. And advice: never mess with your wives if they are armed.

regards from Germany
Ulrich

Seems to me that in a self-defense situation, she's the last person who ought to be scared!

The females of our species tend to have better visual acuity, muscle control, and hand-eye coordination. They may have less recoil tolerance than many men, but they are generally better shots.

I agree. I've taught a number of ladies to shoot, and inevitably they're easier to teach than the men (not boys) I've taught. An awful lot of men seem to think they have a John Wayne gene that's makes them know all about guns😏

I taught my brother in law a couple years ago. 68 and had never fired a weapon, but was not happy with the **** going on and decided he needed to get a weapon and a cc permit. Kept sticking a finger inside the trigger guard when he was NOT getting ready to shoot. Finally got him past it, but it took a while

I wish I could get my wife interested. She always feigns interest when I show her a new acquisition, but she wants nothing to do with firing one.

I feel sorry for my Dad. He took my Mom out and tried to get her shoot his shotgun. It was a semi auto so not too bad. I don't know what load it had but it didn't matter. My Mom threw it in the sand so that ended the trip and they had to go home so he could clean out the gun.
