I have dreamed of someday owning a nice Corvette since God's dog was a puppy. Well this week, at age 71, I finally made that dream come true. I picked up a mint condition, show quality, Hyper Yellow, 1987 C4 Supercharged Corvette. It has just 59,000 miles and only 5,000 since the engine rebuild/Turbo install.

Got a smoking good deal by being the first guy to see it and plop down cash. I sold my Can Am Spyder RT and my brides Toyota Solara {she doesn't drive much anymore - that's my story and I am sticking to it}, threw in some cash that I had been ratholing for something fun and, voila... got me a nice Vette!

Don't plan to use the Supercharger all that much {we'll see} but the ride and handling are off of the chart. Did a 260 mile run up to flagstaff today which involved a lot of mountain driving and 70 miles of I-17 climbing 5,000' from Camp Verde up to Flagstaff running 75 {+/-} and was seeing 30 mpg on the dash... I'll confirm the actual mileage at the next fill up but that looks to be pretty accurate.

Though they looked like new the seller advised replacing the tires as he thought they could be 10 to 12 years old. Turns out they were 8 years old but a new set of Toyo's OTD for $893 solved that issue.

I know.. without pics it did not happen but as Photobucket continues to hold my pic posting for a ransom that I will never pay I lack the ability to post here... However if someone out there would be so kind I can email a couple of pics if you have the ability to post them.

For the record I recognize this ride would be a carjackers dream so my MP9 Compact will be riding shotgun snug in the center console.

Methinks my face could open a branch smile and the giggling continues but WOW, how often do you get to do something this foolish AND fun? As my bride of 53+ years pointed out... "If not now WHEN?" Yep, I love her a lot.

Bravo! Good on you! I love stories like this. I have a hunch you will use the turbo a bunch. Betcha can't resist seeing how far down you can push that right pedal. I'm also guessing you won't see 30 mpg ever again! Something about that right pedal and gas mileage. . . .

Thanks to one and all...

Thanks folks for making this fun event even better with your kind thoughts. Yep, getting in and out does take a little effort. I have the worst knee in Arizona {VA put in a Cobalt Chromium TKR and it turns out I am deathly allergic to Cobalt... who knew?}

Eight months later they cut my leg off again and put in a ceramic knee which is way better but it will never be 100% {spent 31 days, 17 & 14 in the VA hospital in Tucson}. Fortunately my surgeon set me up with permanent handicapped plates which is a big help. Those wide Vette doors need room to swing all the way open and give me any chance of getting in and out.

I was strongly advised to never wash the Vette but to use Mothers Waterless Wash and Wax and wow, this stuff is amazing. Spritz it on, spread with a microfiber cloth and buff it out with a second {clean} cloth.
It goes quickly and leaves an amazing shine.

The Rim Country Classic Auto Club puts on an awesome car show at the park here in Payson in October and I am planning on showing my new baby. Should be a hoot.

Yes it is...

Is this the weapon being discussed?

Can't beat a turbo motor when you live at altitude.

Thanks so much for posting. The Wikipedia article is awesome. You're right about turbos/Superchargers and altitude, we live at 5,000' but most of my favorite roads take me to 8, 9 and 10,000'+ on a regular basis {ya gotta love living in the southwest}. It will be nice not to have to give up 3% of power for every thousand feet of elevation like I do with my 6.8L V-10 24' Class C.

Captain, enjoy your new ride!-:)

This is coming from a person that has had 7 Vettes over the years.

A couple years ago I got rid of my 15 as I was not driving it that much and being of fluffy build and after a new left knee installed found Vette hard to get out of.

Prescott has several car shows. My niece & hubby have several cars that they show but no Vettes.
Here in Okoboji we have a big Vettes in the Park show every summer.
