627 cylinder pin issue?

Took my new 627 to the range for the first time and had it completely lock up on me. No working the action at all in double or single action. Upon further investigation it seems like this center pin that's supposed to push the ejector button on the face in to pop the cylinder out gets stuck depressed unless I swing out the cylinder and really depress the plunger hard. The plunger moves freely and does not appear to be bent or obstructed in any way. Only about 30 rounds through the revolver and it's essentially bricked. Tried cleaning and lubing it, no joy.

Anyone else experience something like this? Anyone have any tips?

no expert here, but it sounds like the ejector rod or one of the parts of the ejector/extractor is bent. disassemble the extractor and roll the parts on a flat surface to determine if they are bent. for the extractor, put the star over the edge of the table to roll it. if one or more parts are bent, look for replacements. on the 617 the ejector rod had left hand threads, so righty, loosey.

if none of the parts are bent, look for a burr or ding in the hole the rod comes thru or on the rod itself.

good luck

Since this is a new S&W product, before you go taking things apart and maybe filing or sanding and violating terms of the warranty, contact S&W. You paid for a new, fully functioning revolver with a warranty. Make use of the warranty you paid for.

Either something is out of spec. with the Ejector Rod, ER tunnel, broken spring inside, or something is bent. Just another case of "send it back" unfortunately.

Yeah I'll call them today. Never had a real issue with any of my Smiths until now and I buy smith specifically in case something like this happens. I've heard they will make it right.

That pin that is in the middle of the ejector star looks like the tip broke off.
I currently don't have the ability to post pictures- hopefully it will resolve in a few days.
But if it has warranty, I recommend sending it back.

Yeah I sent it back. The tip actually didn't snap off but it's stuck from coming back forward into position unless I manually touch the other end of it. Figured I wouldn't mess with it. They sent me a label and I'm shipping it off tomorrow

Got the gun back today. The repairs included adjusting the barrel, timing and new center pin. We'll see how it performs at the range but it's gonna be a while. It no longer locks up but it didn't start doing that before until like 30 rounds

She's back in business! Managed to get to the range far sooner than expected. No issues noticed in double or single action with or without moon clips between 38 and 357
