Model 63 upgrade, sorta

I took this out to the range for the first time last week. The grip is small and it was hard to hold her steady. At 7 yards I was able to put all 6 rounds into the "face" of the target but further back, about 20 yards I was barely able to put all 6 on target. I was fortunate enough to find a set of NIB Tyler T-Grips here on the forum.(thanks IAhunter) and now the grips fill my hands. Can't wait to take it out and try again. Before and after pictures below.

I have large hands and the factory Magna stocks on my Model 63 were also difficult to get a good grip on. I found this pretty set of Goncalo Alves Smooth Target Stocks at a gun show and they made all the difference in the world. A T-Grip also adds the much needed filler behind the trigger guard.

It cracks me up how so many on this forum resist rubber grips.

A simple set of Pachmayr combats will transform that little guy at the range, and you can always switch back to your 1950s T-Grip when you get home.

Those grips do look nice. Great find. I am always looking for grips at the monthly Military (can't call it a Gun Show here in NJ lol) show. Nothing decent for quite some time.

A simple set of Pachmyer combats will transform that little guy at the range, and you can always switch back to your 1950s T-Grip when you get home.

Resistance is Futile. I have Pachmayr's (should be spelled Pachmayrs) on my 67-1 and my 10-8. I just wanted to keep a more classic look going on this little revolver.

I've got a couple of Model 63's and both have factory magnas and both have a smooth set of target grips for each pistol. The larger target grips just feel better in my hand.
I've also got a pair of Pachmayr grips on one of my other J-Frames as mentioned above.
I never really liked the factory magnas with a Tyler-T grip. Just don't suit me very well.

I always use a Tgrip with magnas whether on a J or K frame.

Tyler T's are meant for magnas.

Enough to cost X's and 10's to become 10's and 9's on the B27 Target used in PPC. Switching back to wood stocks kept me on the winners platform.

The stocks I fashioned from two pair of factory target stocks ended up enough like the Magna with a grip adapter that I eventually just went that way for all my revolvers.

I don't think I have a pair of Pachmyar grips in my junk box!

I've not had that problem, but it sounds like your shooting is a bit more precise than mine or the OP's with his M-63.

Come to think of it, the Pachies I had on my 629s didn't have that problem, either.

Cuz rubber grips on ANY Smith are butt ugly........I did as Walter above did. Put target grips on mine.

I don't even want to shoot a Smith with ugly rubber grips..........The J-frame targets are way to go. They fit both round and square butts. Even have wood on my 2 in'ers.

One of the esthetic benefits of fitting factory Target Stocks to square butt J frames is they are often found made of very nicely grained Goncalo Alves, as seen in post #13 above. And they don't sell for as much as the K and N frame Target Stocks. I also added a pair to my Model 31-1.

To me rubber goes with stainless steel, and I don't really find them that ugly.

Either way, fit and feel are more important.
