Triplelock?

It sold at about what it’s worth. It appears to be 4” blued with an uncut barrel, but reblued and with replaced stocks. After you add in commissions, sales tax, FFL fees, and shipping, it’s no longer a bargain.

Someone wanted it pretty bad and had a laid a pretty good max bid on it.

I'm not a serious collector by any means, and know just enough to get myself in trouble.:)

What did you see that was wrong about the stocks?

For the time frame, the stocks should look like the ones on this Triple Lock revolver. Pre war N frame checkered walnut stocks with medallions.

I think its actually a cut barrel.

The info should be on the right side there, and it looks like its on top.

Pretty good looking gun, or at least it would be with some pre-war stocks of some flavor and a re-finish of the stud/hammer/trigger back to case color.

It's a surprisingly good old refinish, given they blued the wrong parts.

As to the price?

The buyer over paid given the modification(s?) and re-finish. Hard to say how well that front sight is put back on from these pictures, and who knows what else was done to it.

Well, better photographs are necessary. I’m not exactly convinced where the barrel address is or was and assumed the path of least resistance. Not cut but the 3 line barrel address on the side of the barrel was buffed off at the time of refinishing. Of course, what you state is certainly possible, as well.

I'd buy sll fo those I could get at that price all day long That gun with original finsh and correct stocks is a $4k property. Refinished value is probably 2K. How many 4" TLs have you run across in the last 5 years? Disregard this value if the haarrel has been cut.

Look close, you can see text on top behind the front sight there.

Also, none of the other markings are buffed out, you would see some kind of sign of such aggressive buffing on the right side of the barrel.

Of course I'm not the most knowledgeable guy on these. I've owned an original 4" and the text there was unmistakable. My other triple locks have all had longer barrels so the text was on top. I'm more than willing to be corrected on the address on top 4" guns if such existed.

I figured I'd have a least 1500 in it by the time I had it in hand.

No, try $1416 prior to shipping, sales tax, & FFL fees.

A bid of $1200 tells me one of two things. The buyers premium was 20% leading to $1200 as the cost with commission and minus anything else. Or the bid was $1200 before anything else including commission. As the buyers premium was 18%, a $1000 bid would have had listed that this revolver sold at $1180. The $1200 final price tells me this is a $1416 revolver. So you are at $1500 or so after shipping and FFL fees, if you are fortunate to live in a state without sales tax. Add almost another $100 if you are like the majority of Americans and live in a state with sales tax.

Those that live in states without a sales tax definitely have the upper hand.

Okay, I barely see the markings on the top of the barrel now that you mention it. So, a cut barrel. As is, maybe worth something north of $500 but definitely under $1000.

Rattling around somewhere in my mind are words to the effect the markings typically on top wouldn't fit on a 4" (if that's actually what this is), so they put them on the side. Given that as a fact (??), the barrel has certainly been cut. That aside for the moment, this piece doesn't qualify as a collectible in my mind. (I am, admittedly, one of those picky sorts----and that has served me well!!)

The fact that you didn't get it suggests the good Lord was looking out for you.

I'm more of a shooter than a collector, but but I think this one is a bit more of a "shooter" that I would be happy with.:)

Not the first time the providence of God has got me out of something my stupidity got me into.
