I recently bought a 1956 Model 27 off Gunbroker. I haven't received it yet. Supposed to get to my FFL tomorrow. It is a gun that doesn't appear abused, but it shows honest wear. One of the things I would like to do is replace the screw that retains the crane and cylinder, as it appears that is a little buggered from the photos on GB. Did these screws change much over the years? Would a '56 era gun have a different screw than one from the 60s or 70s? What is the best place to look for the correct one, and lastly, am I referring to this screw correctly? Thanks.

S&W calls it a yoke screw. It is fitted to the yoke and a new screw would probably have to fitted as well.

Post WW II screws are the same, up until the time where the yoke retention was changed.

A buggered screw can be repaired and reblued.

I could probably fit a new one, but I wouldn't trust myself to re-configure the old one to the correct appearance.
