Folks, you probably get tired of me harping on this topic but we had another member fall prey to a scammer.
This scammer was clever, using a compromised password from another hacked site to log in here as a member who has been around for a long time. This is why it is so important to use different passwords for different sites. There are multiple programs out there that will generate and save this information for you and automatically plug it in for you whenever needed, so there is no reason for you to use the same password over and over again!
There are also ways to protect yourself against such scum but it requires an effort on your part. If a seller is offering an item for a very attractive price and is asking for payment via Zelle or Venmo THAT IS A RED FLAG!!!! Yes, we do have great sellers who accept those forms of payment, but take steps to make sure you are dealing with them instead of a scammer. Ask for pictures of the item with a piece of paper with today's date included. Ask for a telephone number and speak directly to the seller. If the seller's email address is a Gmail account, a Proton account or from a TECNO phone - that is another RED FLAG! Over 90% of the scammers we catch use Gmail accounts. Again, we have great members who also use them but do your due diligence!
This a great link to show you to establish if a seller is legitimate. If you have any doubt, use the advice offered here:
How to NOT get Scammed
And if you have any other doubts, contact us BEFORE you send any money!!! We do everything we can to protect you, but you are the best defense against getting taken!
