As of November 30, 2023, I am now out of work, having joined the retirement side of my generation.

My good work friends, my family, threw me a nice party at our local fave Chinese restaurant. I think 30+ people showed up. Nice. Graphic artist made me a Star Trek character in my favorite episode - "The Trouble With Tribbles". Much effort in Photoshop. :)

Congratulations.

A close friend said, "The only problem with retirement is there are no days off."

As others have suggested stay busy.

I retired at 48 in 2000. Went to college for 5½ years. Then bought a bed 'n' breakfast in 2006.

Sold it in 2018.

Great fun if you like people. I do, but cleaning toilets and making beds? I don't recommend it.

Now I write, harvest trees for firewood, and enjoy my friends.

Life is good.

Find your niche and live forever.

No problems. Within a week or two everyone you know will think of things for you to do now that you have all that spare time on your hands.

The regulars at my club have started calling the daily poker game a committee meeting. For some reason no one argues with me when I tell them I would really like to help out, but I have a committee meeting that might take all afternoon.

Thinking about organizing some trips. I got the idea from our congressman who talks about fact-finding trips; seems they lose all sorts of facts and have to go run them down. Sometimes those pesky facts turn up in really nice and interesting places.

There is always the annual Brown Trout Eradication Effort that requires all hands on deck from early spring to late fall. Then there is the annual Mule Deer Population Control program, followed by the Rocky Mountain Elk Interdiction Initiative in late fall. In some years the blue grouse can become a problem in the foothill areas and require attention for weeks at a time. Only a matter of time until the cottontails try to take over vast areas of the country and test our abilities again.

Congratulations!

Retirement, for me, with the exception of missing the vigor of youth, has been and is, the best time of my life. No stress from the job, finances, kids, or whatever. I feel I've done my time in the trenches, and it's all gravy moving forward...

I know I am blessed, and I wish all of us in retirement could share my good fortune.

Enjoy it!

I retired in April, and loving every minute of it. I've spent the summer getting my house of 32 years cleaned out and ready to sell, and am moving to Arizona so it's been a very busy few months. My wife says that once we get relocated and settled in I'll be back to work because I can't sit around! I have lots of hobbies and just bought a motorcycle so I think I'll have plenty to keep me occupied.

All my friends writing above are right. My self I retired in1988 after working for Ma Bell 38 years. So been retired now almost as long as working. The last 35 has passed so quickly I don't know why. Seems like yesterday I held my kids in my arms, now I'm a Great grandfather 10 1/2 times. Do your hunting & fishing like i did and enjoy the memories.

LoL Everyone is so kind. No idea what I'm going to do, just going to spend a couple of months resetting.

Couple of months? Heck, it only took me a couple of seconds when I retired on December 31, 2015 at 3:30 PM ( but who's keeping track).

You'll have to get a new calendar. One with 6 Saturdays and 1 Sunday every week.

You have the chance now to live life pretty much on your own terms. I know I've put a lot more lead into the hillside since I retired.

Yes, do something to keep your mind active. i went back to my bar association meetings and continued being the Secretary of the town planning commission and Vice Commander of the local Sons of the American Legion. I got back into mid-week precision rimfire shooting.

With proper planning, retirement can be the best time of your life.

Welcome to the club!-

Congrats. I retired almost 12 years ago. I enjoy my hobbies (cars, motorcycles, guns, guitars, pickleball), but I'm also quite proficient at doing absolutely nothing. Watching TV and an afternoon nap is also a pleasurable activity.
