Hi all:

I'm a fairly new shooter and own several S & W recent model handguns. I recently received this revolver from a family member. It belonged to my great grandfather. I've been reading up on what I can find on these, but am not knowledgeable at all, so any help is appreciated.

-Barrel is stamped "Long CTG". Appears to be a 3" barrel (or 3 1/4). Top of barrel stamped "Patented Feb. 8 08, Sept. 14 09, Dec. 22 14"

-Serial number is six digits, starting with "321"

-I know enough to know the pearl handles aren't stock. They have no S & W markings. They do appear old. I checked under grips and there is minimal tarnish/corrosion there.

-I think this finish is original? I could be wrong, but stamped markings appear clear and trigger and hammer look unplated? If finish is original, it seems to be in excellent shape for its age, but I think this gun likely was used infrequently and probably has been in its case since about 1950 so that could explain the condition.

-I haven't fired the gun. Hammer, trigger and cylinder operation is strong and smooth

-Don't have original box or accessories.

My basic research as well as what I know of my great grandfather suggests its from about 1920 give or take? Does that seem right?

I may keep this gun as a family collectible, but am curious as to what its value might be and how desirable this might be to collectors? Seems like I've seen sale/auction prices for somewhat similar S & W .32s from $200 to $800...but obviously every gun is a little different. Thanks for any thoughts or comments.

Hello New Guy. Nice gun, have one just like it. Fun little shooter.
Make sure you soak those little brass cups on the grips before you loosen the screw. Those mother of pearl grips have a bad habit of forming rust under them with the frame. So tread lightly removing the grips. The grips are very fragile and prone to breaking.

Our expert Hondo44 should be along soon to provide more information.
