Dirty Gun Pic Thread

Not an S&W, but how about some pics of a gun that has been shot so much you can see metal erosion on the breech face. This is an early gen Kimber 1911 than I bought brand new in the 90s and used as a USPSA gun. Was shot heavily. Also used as a duty gun. Used when I worked executive protection details for a governor. Taught with it, etc.

It actually used to have a nice blued finish.

I stopped keeping track of the round count at around 70K

No bluing left at all in some areas and worn totally smooth.

Great thread! I'm not much of a photo taker/poster, but I believe life is too short to be cleaning guns after every range trip. I see some of the super-model posed photos and wonder if those guns ever get a day at the range. Terrific to see many get used as intended.

The ones I shoot regularly seldom get really cleaned because they will just get dirty. A wipe down is about it.

I do the same thing. A long time ago I shot mainly M1911A1's. One day was in my office cleaning my M1911A1 as we had just finished our morning range session. The 1stSgt stopped in and wanted to go to lunch. I told him to sit down and wait for me to finish cleaning the pistol. He asked me why I was doing that? I reminded him that a good Marine cleans his weapons when he is finished using them. He told me to go on the "Shoot it until it quits club". He said his worked until about 2500 rounds had been through them. Tried it and he was right. I wipe my guns down and clean off excess dirt and build up after a range session. I take a week a year to clean my guns thoroughly.

Fun day at the range today. It was a 44 spl day with my 3" 629-6 and my latest purchase, the 4" 624. The 624 has quickly turned into a favorite shooter and even though I don't shoot as well with iron sights, this gun makes me look good. I thought it a good time to add one to the 'dirty gun' files.

That 4" 624 should be fun for a "Bordello" IHMSA Field Pistol entry! (No sight adjustments after sighters, just figure out hold unders and overs.) We haven't had a Bordello Day at CGC in a while. Mike D. would probably be another interested party. Possibly Ron as well, but he's usually too busy running the match. I have an early (stainless "colored" rear sight) Model 67 that needs exercise on the FP course again.

That thought had crossed my mind. Ron might have to give me more than 5 shots at the swingers though. :D

I really like the way the finish is wearing off on your 45, looks alot like my Officers 45 that I carry. Mine started out worn looking so I enhanced it a bit and now it's really starting to show the holster wear; beauty in simplicity!
This one get's the snot shot out of it, but I clean em up too fast to have any pictures.

I own old S&W's, some some half my age, most older than me, including older than my father and near my grandfather. Only a few are "new". I own Rugers, none older than 1990, so that's the next generation in my group, I guess. The Smiths are my collection. The Rugers are yet to be collectors.

And some of the S&W Collectors........... Or just collectors in general!
True collectors can also avoid the useless need to shoot every single gun in their collection too. :D
Only a fool would carry a defensive firearm they personally hadn't run at least 300 rounds through, collectable or potentially collectable guns not so much.
