J Frame Snub Owners: What is your favorite "carry" grips?

I have Model 60-7 Ladysmith with a grip that works well, but no manufacturer on it. Just says "S&W J-Frame Round Butt" on the inside.

The Model 30-1 wears a set of Hogue Monogrips and I like them a lot.

Honestly both fit my hand about the same. Can't say I have a favorite between the two.

I believe at one time Pachmayr offered their grips with or without the medallion. Unfortunately, its medallion only these days. Although I would prefer them without.

I think the best grips for a S&W snub for actual carry and shooting are the old rubber Taurus small frame revolver grips they no longer make.

I've got a set of these and agree they're the best two-finger grips for me. If I pocket-carried, they're what I'd use.

I've settled on the Hogue Monogrips on my 642 and 49. I need the extra distance from the back strap to trigger for a good DA pull and the extra length doesn't seem to make much difference carried IWB.

My range sessions with these guns are usually ~100 rounds. That extra padding helps. :)

I finally got around to picking-up some Taurus Boot Grips. These are my favorite boot grip if you've got long fingers. Plenty of backstrap coverage to extend your reach. They do add about a 1/2 oz. of weight compared to the old Uncle Mike's boot grip.

And for slightly shorter fingers, the Uncle Mike's 3 finger grip with the bottom cut off are also a good choice. I found some used and cheap already cutoff on ebay, so I didn't have to ruin a pair.

Pachmayr 'Gripper' grips....

Hello again fellow snub owners,
just wondering ... What is your favorite set of "J-Frame Grips" for EDC?

1. Do you prefer the S&W factory grips over aftermarket grips?
2. Rubber, Wood, or Synthetic?
3. Modifications: i.e. Double sided friction tape aka Hockey Tape over wood or rubber, etc., and or ??
Lastly, do you prefer your grips for better shooting mechanics such as control, comfort, accuracy, etc.? or do you prefer concealment over the latter?
4. Favorite brand?
5. Is price a factor for you? (Aftermarket)

Lastly, I am not looking for a personal solution here. But, I am curious what everyone's taste or preference is.

Best,
Data

1) Nothing wrong with the factory grips but...

2) The 'Grippers are rubber.

3) No modifications necessary or desired. Mods would probably detract.

I have more control with aftermarkets. Factory is fine with comfort, but aftermarkets give me more endurance in practice. Having more control I shoot better with aftermarkets.

4) I like Pachmayr and Hogue. One gun has Hogues because Pachmayrs weren't available with the square butt J frame.

5) Price is a factor with me as I was retired on disability.

I typically pocket carry my 638. I use the standard wood grips. Not fun to shoot but they slip in and out of the pocket well.

Not sure what they are called, but whatever grips that come on the 43c are absolutely terrific 👍

The only J frame I currently have is a 642 and the Uncle Mike's boot grips that it came with work just fine for me. I thought about getting something prettier for it, but with its dull gray finish, the 642 is kind of a utilitarian revolver to me, so I haven't bothered.

tough question

Toughest question I've seen on the forum in a while.

My personal favorites for carry AND for shooting is the actual Craig Spegel Boot Grips.

The Hammer Forge hip grip on the Model 49 offers a very practical option when holstering up is not practical, however.

I bought a Model 640 when they came out and added the Tyler-T. This wheelgun has been with me a long time and the slight preference offered by the Spegels is offset by the sentimental aspect of not wanting to alter it.

I really like the Bianchi Lightening grips. They fit my hand perfectly, tame recoil and provide a bit of hammer shroud.

Thanks for posting the photo of your J Frame with the Taurus Boot Grips. I really appreciate it. It's to my understanding that the Taurus Grips work extremely well. If I recall correctly, Taurus no longer makes the boot grip as seen in the photo. It's too bad. Likewise, the Uncle Mike's J frame grip designed by Craig Spegel falls into the same category. Nevertheless, I feel super lucky to have several pairs of them.

Luckily both are still available on ebay and sometimes Gunbroker.

The Taurus grips are pretty cheap, as most people aren't chasing them. I found the pair shown at a local pawn shop for $10. And already had a pair on their way I order off ebay.

Drilling the hole to line-up the grip frame pin was the biggest pain. Until I realized I could make the hole larger than it needed to be to give some play so the two halves of the grips could fit together. And you're drilling not just through rubber, but metal, so you need a good drill bit.

I'd love to try some Eagle Secret Service grips, but not at $160.

Craig Spegel's the real deal in handmade grips. The most coveted grip to have on a j frame in my opinion. I have contemplated buying myself a pair, but the waiting list is a bit long. I think it's 2 years plus... but I am very happy to own several pairs of the Uncle Mike's version. Thanks for cool photo! Great collection of J frame you have there.

I had to google up, Bianchi Lightening Grips ... as I didn't know they existed. I find the grip very intriguing as it turns a Chief's Model into a Body Guard Model with a simple install of the grips. Very cool. The full grip looks like it helps out immensely for control, and accuracy. Thanks for posting.

For low profile with my M49, I like to carry the factory wood stocks.

If doing a lot of shooting, I like the Hogue, that takes some of the sting away
from full or +P loads, at a session.
