Primer Sticker Shock

Those are mil spec primers. The main difference is that the cups are made from thicker/harder material. There may be some other small differences in construction but hey are designed to prevent slam fires in military guns. Mostly the full auto ones. You can imagine the violence that a round is subjected to as it makes it's way into the chamber of say, a 240SAW. Some military guys use them exclusively but in the civilian world I don't believe they are unnecessary. I think the priming composition is the same as a magnum civilian primer. Which would make sense if you consider the large range of conditions that they must operate in.

Seems they would also be useful in rifles with floating firing pins, like alot of military rifles. Mostly i use them for better accuracy with W748 in 308 (bolt/lever/semi). Similarly, use Rem 7 1/2 with W748 in 223.

I asked for primers for Christmas but sadly didn't get any so I bought 2 bricks of cci srp from brownells yesterday. Merry Christmas to me. As I'm down to 2500 lpp my plan is to start using srp at cas matches. I have 45acp and 455 brass that have small primer pockets that will work in my revolvers and I have 38 spcl revolvers too. I also am going to get my uberti 1873 45colt rifle rechambered to 45acp. I refuse to hang up my cf guns. Spending my son's inheritance.

Up until last week I was getting Federal SPP from Sportsman's here in town for under 60 bucks per K out the door . Now all of a sudden they're 80 bucks .

I'm glad those old Remington primers were pictured...I had truly forgotten I had those primers in that old toolbox. The old fellow that gave them to me had a S&W Highway Patrolman from the 50s...his son still has it.

Talked to a friend today and he quoted prices that were fairly reasonabl in a shop back east Rem LPs 5M for under 350 dollars LRP for about 360 or there abouts. The name is Shyda's gun shop in Lebanon Pa...In store prices only I guess. Gotta be some of you guys live in that area. They must have a website

I'm familiar with Shyda's. Honestly, I didn't know that they were still in business! They are right off Pa72 North as you are heading towards Hershey from the PA turnpike. About a 3 hour drive from my home.

They used to be one of my wholesale distrbutors when Sig had it...Even ith Brian. I didn't get to talk to my friend today but he said he was going up there to buy stuff tday...Not necessarily cheapest but I think they have had a fair amount of stock for a while now.

Well I just talked with my friend back east. Darn guy bought 10,000 primers SPPs LPPs and LRPs. He said avg of about 70 dollars per M...+ tax of course. Think he did ok. He stopped in another GS and bought a Contender bbl. Think he sold that place some 35 Rem ammo...very hard to find most places these days....Said Shyda's had primers and doing a land office business
