The hwy through town was redone to from 4 lanes to 3 lanes last year (narrows to 2 lanes on each end of town), and this year the police quit enforcing the 25 mph speed limit. Makes it dangerous for anyone living on the street, trying to cross the street or enter/exit from it. For cheap entertainment i drive the speed limit on it with the mindset "the closer ya follow, the slower i go"

You Fellers ought drive a tractor on the highway from one field to another. My tractor has turn signals.........Which indicates to anyone behind me......IT"S TIME TO PASS....My tractor has a seat belt and ROPS.....I use both when on the highway.

Police here very rarely enforce speed limits any more. A former police chief stated that the benefit of strict traffic law enforcement is the large number of people you stop who are engaged in other criminal activites ( illegal drugs, felon in possession, unserved warrants, etc.) rather than the actual slowing of traffic. Apparently the current administrators disagree.
And, yes, every red light must be run by at least one or two vehicles before opposing traffic can go.

Don't get me started. I cringe every time I see a car weaving into my lane on a 2-lane road only getting in their lane at the last moment.

They recently passed a distracted driving law that allows them to pull a driver over. I hope the LE uses it.
I saw on the news where a car hit a pole on a residential street, and it broke in half. They estimated the driver was going in excess of 80mph.
The "speed kills" is just as true today as when the phrase was first coined.

Biggest issue around here is vehicles with an expired registration. Can't drive anywhere without seeing vehicles with expired tags dating back upwards of two years or more.
As of Jan.01,2023 all new vehicle registrations required a new plate being issued. You can no longer transfer the old plates to the new vehicle. Now you'll see temp tags that have long expired.
Two Counties said that enforcement of expired tags would be dealt with by LE but apparently that isn't happening unless one is pulled over for another offense. With your mindset
eek we could set up a checkpoint similar to a DUI and pull people over all day.We also can't forget those that move here from out of State that wont register their vehicle in Colorado within 60days because their current registration is still good for another year or so.
Unfortunately you can't defund your LE while expecting them to do even more while on duty. I'd be happy seeing more frequent patrolling of my neighborhood because of the crime.

Same problem, different state. Earwigging on the state police frequencies is quite enlightening.
In the UK the tolerance for such malarkey is pretty much zero. If caught driving an unregistered or (especially) uninsured car, best have Uber on speed dial, because the vehicle is being towed. There is zero grace period.

Actually, we have one of those in Astoria, and there's rarely a problem with it. It was a big thing at first, but people have done real well since it went in. And, it fixed an intersection that was a major problem.

I like them. Every once in a while I will take an extra spin around the circle just to see if anyone is paying attention.
The roundabouts work well here. Fewer accidents and better traffic flow.

What was even more fun was taking my US born and Stop sign indoctrinated late sister-in-law around the roundabouts in Vegas. Covering her eyes and screaming were the ideal fix for roundabouts in her mind.

Having driven in many, many states they All seem about the same. Seems the young generation has had No, Zero drivers Ed, period. Got to drive in Saigon so not much scares me. Unless one has driven in just about any Asian city they just don’t know, LOL.
Someone rear ended a friend of mine recently on his tractor on a country road. It broke his tractor in two pieces, fortunately he was not seriously injured. The highways are unbelievable these days..

Whichever topic we choose to discuss it is all about abuse of authority in public office.
50 years ago we joked about southern communities levying a "yankee tax", no car or driver with license plates issued north of the Mason-Dixon Line could pass through town without paying some fines. Same principle, same mentalities.
The emphasis of my first post was that this usually originates with the political authority, not the street cops. When the hiring authority (town, city, county, state) decide that the law enforcement agency should generate revenue, rather than concentrate on public safety concerns, everything else is a short step away.
