A Friend of mine gifted this mint Winchester 62A around 3 years ago. {1951}
Have never fired it, and not sure if was ever fired. So since it is a wall hanger. I needed something to shoot 50 yard targets. My choice was a Savage MarkII heavy barrel target. {not fired yet either}. But that will change. {2023} Added a Vortex Crossfire red dot.

Although these don't serve the same needs I put them together for some pics. Bob

Wait for a nice day to go to the range with the Winchester. Imagine all the looks you will get and the “ where did you get the repro from” comments and then the look on their faces when you show them. Well worth it IMHO. LOL

I wouldn't take it out a lot but I'd probably just have to shoot it as well.

Great gun

You can’t wear out that old Winchester. They were routinely used a “gallery guns” because they were basically unbreakable. If you don’t abuse it and keep it clean shootingisnt going to hurt itorhavetoo much effect on value. I’d shoot that little fella and enjoy it.

I have only ever had 1 gun that I never fired before this one. It was a Browning A 5 12 ga Magnum. Bought it used at a gun show. Had the cosmoline in the barrel still. Was never fired. Cleaned it up and lubricated it. Because of that it sat for a few years. went back to gun show and sold it for around $200 profit. Never got to enjoy it, even though it looked good. It is my normal intention to shoot all of my guns. That is what they are for. Bob

Ned Schwing's book "Winchester Slide Action Rifles" (vol. I and II) is the ultimate authoritative source for about anything and everything associated with the '90, '06, 61, and 62 rifles. I think it is long out of print, so if you want one, a used copy will be expensive. Amazon has one listed at $322.00. And that is the paperback edition.

Wow! I'm glad I bought both volumes in hardback when they were in print. They contain a wealth of information about the Winchester slide action rifles.

I have four 62As, two each in .22Short and .22 SL&LR and a really nice model 61. Also a Model 1890 in .22 Short and a late model 90 in .22 WRF. all are shooters. I remember way back in the 50s when I was a youngster there were county fairs with real shooting galleries. I remember shooting model 62s in .22 Short that were worn to a frazzle but still worked.

Why wouldn’t you shoot that grand old Winchester?????Such a classy, fun .22!!!!!

I have a BEAUTIFUL Winchester 62A. I shoot it about one time a year. Clean it up and put it away. It’s so nice to enjoy the quality of a fine firearm.
