Guns we wish Smith & Wesson had made

That is most curious, same for the 13 and 65. Used prices are high, they quickly sell whenever one comes up, it would seem a no-brainer marketing decision. A Ladysmith 65 without the Ladysmith markings would absolutely sell. I wouldn't even care about the lock.

I don’t know how much they’d sell. The new 4” Model 19’s and 66’s don’t seem to be such big sellers. Collectors and enthusiasts like us would drool over a nice older 3” Model 64, but I wouldn’t want a two piece barrel with a lock 3” model.

  • 327 7-shot K frame (like everyone said) 3" true fixed sight and 6" adjustable sight (maybe half-lug), 8 3/8" definitely half-lug
  • 327 J frame stainless steel frame, titanium cylinder, centennial style concealed hammer, 2.5-2.75" barrel.
  • 10mm L frame 3" true fixed sight, 5"-6" adjustable sight, 8 3/8" half-lug
  • 10mm K frame 2.75-3" 5-shot centennial style concealed hammer

I am currently working on a steel 6 shot J frame in 327. The recoil on the one I made on an alloy frame is to snappy

But a production fixed sight steel J frame 327 would be great

Three inch seems to be a market all it's own. Different folks than the four inch buyers. As far as two piece barrels, the most accurate Smith I own is a 686 Pro with two piece barrel. The lock I simply ignore.

Agreed, 327 is pretty far beyond 32 mag in an alloy frame. If sticking to factory loaded ammo, 30 SC might fit the use case.

Its been said, but I want an L-frame 10mm.

I also want new model 12s, or similar (such as Scandium if necessary), in a UC style.

Model 1854 chambered in .460 or .500 for around $1000-1500 would certainly be nice. New production steel framed handguns in 9mm, 40, 45, and 10mm would be the best. A .40 version of the m&p metal would also be cool. On the topic of .40, the Response and the FPC would both be cool in .40, maybe .45.
A csx with a trigger that feels like a single action trigger would tempt me to carry 9mm again.

I do not know about "would" have made. However, I cannot figure out why they are not still making 3" model 10's and model 64's.

It is probably because all the agencies that previously bought those revolvers en masse were offered 9mm M&Ps or Glocks for a lot less money.

I spoke to head of handgun production at S&WCA meeting in Glendale,AZ.
last year. I lobbied hard for model 65 3 inch round butt. I told him to review sold 3 inch S&W completed auction pricing to show there is a demand.
He told me things in the working in regarding revolver and for the time being it is the UC models exclusively made for Lipseys.
We can only hope S&W will return 3 inch K frame 38/357 revolver.

I wish S&W had made a 5" .45 Colt on a fixed sight N-Frame, back in the 5-screw days. But the 5.5" M1917 in .45 ACP is close enough for me to forego paying $2,500+ to have a shop make me one as a custom job.

I wish S&W had a thumb safety option not just a decocker on the gen 1 thru gen 3 pistols so a cocked and lock carry would be possible . Primary reason I not carry a 669 I bought many years ago or bother with any other
S^W gen 1 thru gen 3 Nice pistol shooting in SA mod with a good 3.5lb break weight but hated that I could not CC that way .

A 2" - 3" fixed sight K or L frame made in 10mm and .45 acp. The sights being like the fixed sights D&L offers with a tritium front sight.

Also, without the key hole.....on all revolvers.

Chris

you could make a 5 shot L frame 10mm, not a 45 acp. I have measured my 396, 296, 696 and model 69 repeatedly and they will not fit, unless you go to a smaller ratchet (that is how CA is able to do it) In order to do that you would have to make the frame and trigger so the hand could move inward to operate such ratchet. Also you would need to go with a set up like the 69 to get a barrel shank big enough for the larger bullets

At one time, both S&W and High Standard were fierce competitors in the world of target pistols.

We all know about the Model 41 vs. Supermatic Trophy rivalry.

But, there were/are more specialized International events such as 25M Rapid Fire Pistol and 50M "Free"Pistol.
High Standard had much more success in both areas. Bill MacMillan won the Gold in the 1960 Olympics with a High Standard Rapid Fire Supermatic. Next, they developed a free pistol with electronic trigger. It worked well but never quite made it to market.

Smith & Wesson took a faint attempt at the Rapid Fire game, but gave up.

America has really fallen flat on its face in the world of International Target Pistol. For a nation of gun owners I find this very sad.

Smith & Wesson should commit both the R&D and team/shooter support to make America a Gold Medal nation once again.
A world class target pistol made right here in the USA would be a huge step towards that goal.

I’ve not seen any posts regarding this subject but I have for quite a while now been wishing that S&W had offered the Model 18 with a two inch barrel. There’s just something irrefutably pleasing about the aesthetic and handling characteristics of the Model 15 snubby. The heavy barrel and adjustable sights might seem to some to be somewhat anachronistic but I love the idea.
As long as we're wishing I wish S&W would make an all steel pistol similar to their 3rd Gen series chambered in .357 magnum. :giggle:
