I wish CZ never bought out Colt…

I'm glad that the new Colts are making you guys happy.

I guess I experienced the "Version 1.0" curse. Bought a new King Cobra sight unseen in 2019. I was really excited about a new Colt and hoped it could serve as a backup for my 3" Model 66-4. The trigger return had 4 or 5 distinct clicks and if I stopped at 1 of them I had a dead trigger (I.e. floppy & doing nothing). I made a video of the problem for Colt customer service and was told "working as intended". I assure you that I did not want to toss Colt into the same category as Kimber but that's where Colt is for me. Like my only Kimber 1911, that King Cobra is long gone but not forgotten.

That's too bad but not really too surprising. First models of lots of stuff have problems. There's an old saying I've heard from a couple of pilots - "Never fly the A Model of anything." Good advice in my experience and I try to abide by it.

I cleaned mine up a bit but am going to put rounds through it before doing any more.

I'm never of a mind to give CA a pass on blame for lots of things and it's true there is a drop test, but the SA trigger pull of Smiths and Taurus are better than the Colt. I might even include Charter and Ruger, not 100% on those though. If they can do it, it seems to me Colt ought to be able too.

I know the dynamics of those DA/SA revolvers are different than Colt - their DA lifter and sear are separate from the SA sear whereas the Colt lifter and SA sear are one in the same. So the angles are a bit different. Still, seems to me it ought to be better.

Regarding the Colt's single-action trigger...the Smith and Ruger SA trigger aren't modified as they're grandfathered in to California's rules regarding drop-tests. The Colt's action is new and thus had to pass the tests...even though the design uses a transfer bar safety which makes it impossible for the gun to fire should it be dropped on the hammer. Colt had to abide by the test process anyway and designed the SA pull the way it is or they wouldn't be allowed into CA.

Dumb law...but it is what it is.

While on the subject of Colts, what is the consensus on the King Cobra 10 shot .22? I am on the fence about getting one.

I have one, been busy with a cross-country move so I've only shot it once in a pin shoot before I left Maine, nice gun but I had some issues with mis-fires. Once I get settled in I'll play around with it some more and see what happens.
