Good Morning. New to the group and I did go through the Identify Sticky, so I hope I can provide all the info I have so far. I am in the process of being able to pick up this gun, and I got to wondering the year range. I do believe from what I can tell it's somewhere around 1962-5, but any other information would be really appreciated.

S&W .38 SPL
Model: 36
Barrel: 2"
Serial: 397XXX
Engraved by Jeff Flannery

Thank you in advance.

Welcome from Arizona, beautiful gun, congratulations. Looking in the 4th Ed S&W. Standard catalog they show 1962 starting with 295000 and 1969 starting 786544 with in between years, so you are probably pretty close.

Thank you everyone for the Welcomes. And a special thank you to Tom with narrowing down the date range. I can't wait to explore more of the forums.

Welcome to the Forum! You made a nice entrance with that beautiful Model 36...engraved, gold plated, and Mother-of-Pearl stocks. Wow! There are lots of Model 36 aficionados here on the Forum, so you're in good company. Do you have any history or provenance associated with the revolver? It almost looks like a presentation piece, or perhaps belonged to someone like Elvis! Congratulations on your acquisition!

Welcome to the forum - a great place to come and hang out and discuss all things S&W. Love the little engraved Chief Special. Lots of bling on that one.

I really do hope to get more information tomorrow. I am in CA so the whole process is garbage, but it is a private party transfer, so I am wondering if the owner will have information I can get as well.

Sweet looking revolver. Be warned, might be just the beginning of an extensive collection :-)
