Your Daily Driver...

My daily driver is a late 90s CrownVic. It's a cream puff. Really no major problems for a 25 year old car. It's coming due for a major service though.

I'll never buy a new car. I'm causally looking for a low milage CrownVc LX Sport or a Merc GrndMrqs LSE for sale locally so I can see it in person. I did find a Merc Marauder, but it had been hit at some point and had bad bodywork/paint.

I like the Panthers, they handle pretty good considering their size, get decent gas milage and they are bullet proof with regular maintenance. The problem is that nice ones are getting hard to find.

Here are my drivers:

In the last yr we have become a Ford household. I have a 2022 F250 with 7.3L gas motor. My wife drives a 2022 Bronco Outer Banks with 6cyl twin turbo. My truck is fairly basic. Not a lot of tech, which is exactly how I like it.

23 Bronco Wildtrak. 2.7 V6 twin turbo making 330HP and 415 pound feet of torque. Get about 18.5 on the highway and 17ish around town. Not great mileage, but it's advertised at 17 both ways.

I just pulled a small trailer full of my son's belongings to San Antonio for him. The Bronco pulled it well, but the gas mileage at 80mph was only about 12.5 which really sucks. I knew towing would hit the mileage hard, but that was worse than I expected. Got 18.6 on the way home without the trailer (also at 80mph which is the speed limit most of the way.

Models that sit a bit lower with smaller tires and a different gear ratio seem to get around 20-22 on the highway. Mine is the so-called Sasquatch version with 35s and 4.7 gears.

'04 Dodge Dakota that I bought new 20 yrs ago. Gas mileage not that good but plenty of power if needed (4.7 V8). It has about 150k miles on it. Looking for a new truck and will give this one to my son when if I can ever find one.

Bought a 2018 Ram Quad Cab V6 new for $15 grand under sticker out the door price was $24,200. It now has almost 200k miles and I've only had two repairs, a radiator leak and oil filter housing leak and everything works and looks great inside and out because I take great of it. Plenty of power to pull my ski boat and good acceleration and I get 21 mpg in the city but highway mileage isn't great because I'm usually driving 80-85 mph. Love the truck.

I have a 2003 Grand Marquis LSE that I bought with 70,000 miles in 2015, it’s up to 108,000 miles now. The LSE and the Crown Vic Sport are the ultimate Panther platforms, I’m also looking for a Sport to add to my collection. It’s getting tough to find nice ones. I’ve been taking my LSE to Ford National’s at Carlisle for the last few years. We had several LSE’s and Vic Sports at the show this year.

I’ve pretty much given up hope of getting a ‘03/‘04 Marauder. A decent used one brings what it cost new. When they brought it out I wanted to buy one, but I couldn’t swing it back then on my anemic county salary. I think the LSE is as close as I will get. Although I do have a lead on a one owner all original 1963 Marauder. You can never have too many big V-8 sedans.

2005 tundra, commercial version with 4wd and 8 ft bed. Anymore am rarely driving more than 50-60 miles roundtrip

Nice! The older Explorer Interceptors with the conventionally-aspirated V6's are rated at 365HP. New ones have a 400HP twin-turbo.

Mrs Chad has a 4WD 2018 Explorer with the naturally-aspirated 3.5L V6 that's rated at 290HP. She has less than 40,000 miles on it and loves it.

I looked at new ones when I was at the dealership. They only offer turbo's now and I'm not a fan. Mechanics I've talked to don't recommend them if you plan on keeping the vehicle for an extended time. They're OK if you lease or get a new vehicle every few years, but replacement of EcoBoost twin turbo's can get very pricy.

We’ve had three generations of Explorers at work, never had any serious issues with any of them. They all made it over 150,000 miles before going to auction, which is really impressive when you consider all the hours of idling. When we ordered my current 2020 model I insisted on the naturally aspirated V-6. It’s fast enough for what we do, no turbo to go bad and Ford offered a $4,000 discount for that engine. I just can’t get enthused for a turbo.

Slightly modified

The daily driver I wanted wasn't available so.....

1985 FJ60 Land Cruiser with a 5.9L 12V Cummins swap. Stupid power, reliable, and decent MPG with no electronics to worry about.

Kind of goes along with my preference for revolvers, old SxS shotguns, and single shot rifles. I'm kind of a troglodyte.

My daily is a '15 Ram 1500 Ecodiesel. 160k on it so far. I run to a lot of rural counties in my practice and have a 20 mile commute to the office so the mileage pays off vs cost of diesel. Have a 3/4 ton Ram diesel for weekend chores and a couple of 1/2 ton Chevys to keep it company. My wife has a '24 Honda Passport she loves.

just a 2018 Ford Explorer Sport... twin turbo V6.. I think its 365 hp & 350 ft lbs of torque all-wheel drive. it's fun and comfortable... the first non V8, non rear wheel drive I have owned since the 65 GMC that was given to me.. but I do miss my F150 FX4 the most

Still have a 2000 Z71 4WD. It needs some body work and paint. My first dent was easing around a medium pine tree going deer hunting back in the swamp. My Dad said to go ahead and scratch it so I could use it. It's been used a lot.
We also have a 2024 Colorado because we ran over something in the road driving our 2001 C1500 that destroyed the transmission. It's quite zippy, but I still like my Z74 large VorTek.

My daily hack is a BMW 328d, where d means turbo-diesel. The thing makes about 280 ft lbs of torque, so with the turbo it has utter disdain for elevation changes. It'll make 45 mpg or more sitting at a sensible speed on the cruise control. It has a 15.5 gallon tank, and this led to the car gaining a graphic nickname, 'Destroyer of Bladders'.

Had a 335d that was even more of a beast. Except it demanded fuel injectors and DPF system work at an alarming rate.

Awesome driving machine. My wallet wasn't up for the extreme maintenance costs and the resale value plummeted like a lead zeppelin.

Have had upwards of 12 F150, some I've ordered, some off the lot. Current whip is '23 F150 Lightning EV at home and '21 F150 Powerboost hybrid for work. Although the Lightning is not a Destroyer of Bladders, the smooth, quiet, instant acceleration and 4 wheel independent suspension make it a far different ride than other F150.

Great F150 you got there!
