Found a 19 no dash yesterday. Refinished ...somewhat poorly in my opinion. Doesn't look that bad but for a shooter? Pretty certain it originally had magnas on it but has targets now.. no diamond Rosewood I think. No Red ramp no white outline rear. Trying to remember the serial but my brain is toast today. House is full of Estrogen! Good tight gun and doesn't seem to have a lot of rounds through it. In a Pawn shop on consignment. They want 650 for it. Is that a fair price these days for a shooter??

And to further MuleyGil's info, the 2-1/2" barrel would have a round butt frame, but these weren't made until after the no-dash series. Dash-2 or 3, I think.

When did they make 19 no dashes? Could the targets on the gun be original??

Roughly 1958 to 1961, some may have shipped later.

Target stocks, diamond style, Goncalo Alves would have been standard at the time.

Kind of a conundrum,
Diamond target stocks would be correct.
A poorly refinished Model 19 has 0% of its original finish so relegated as a shooter so being an older four screw 19 no dash really adds no value over say a 19-4 shooter.
If it had original diamond target stocks in high condition it might add $250 of value ( yes I have purchased guns for the stocks before).
Non diamond target stocks in high condition perhaps around $100.
Btw I'm assuming the target stocks you are referring to are not smooth presentation stocks.

No not smooth pres targets. Dark checkered Rosewood I think. I was just considering it as a shooter. I have an as new in box 19-3(I think). Haven't looked at it in a while. Was thinking of selling it and finding a shooter. I mostly shoot a 5 inch 27-2 in 357 anyway...but was looking for a shooter 19 to dash 4. I want a K frame size 357 to keep in the truck or car. I made an offer of 550

Why sell the 19 that you have,, just to buy a beater??

Shoot the gun you have,, with reasonable care,, it will retain ,, what,, 90% of its value??

If you are dealing with ANY storefront,, they GOTTA make money,
so, when you buy or sell with them,, they are taking a BIG percentage just to keep the lights on.

In the long run, I think you will be $$$ ahead keeping the high value gun, and shooting it.

I have shot this 629 a LOT,, I think it will still bring more than I paid for it,,
and I have the enjoyment of looking at a nice looking gun.

If it were a beater,, yea, I could shoot it,, but, I would hate looking at it,,

I'd pick a lnib 19-3 over a poorly refinished 19 ND any day especially if the dash 3 is pre 1970 with the pinned fs ramp.
For a truck gun I'd go for a Model 66.

All the dash-3's have a pinned front sight post, although they aren't "proud" pins, but flush and hard to see.

I pretty much shoot the 27-2 for 357. I've never shot the 19-3. I also have a really nice 66-1 4 in. I was looking for a shooter 19 because it is going to be a dedicated truck/car gun...so I have little use for a really pretty piece. I live in Wy. dirt roads lotsa dust. My wife's truck gun (Ruger BH) has taken a bit of a beating over the last 20 years and I'd rather she had a DA revolver anyway. She carries around the ranch and on the 4 wheeler...coyotes and snakes ya know...have seen two wolves the last couple of days too. Big fire(180000 acres) on the other side of the mountain probably making 'em move

Having the callsign "Hair trigger" I kinda get it lol...
But if you reread my post I never said "Front sight post" I said fs "ramp".
4" and 6" Combat Magnums made until sometime in mid to late 1969 have pinned ramps,
Iirc only have seen one 19-3 that was post 1970 with a pinned ramp and it was a 5" gun.

the wheels
Skeet, do what any sane person Should do. Just buy the gun and enjoy shooting the wheels of it:D.

I tried to take a phone pic. They asked me not to. I thought the only part of he gun really refinished was the sideplate. The screw holes were dished pretty much The S&W stamping didn't look buffed and the rest of the gun didn't either. Slight freckling on the right side. non pinned front sight...a bit of CC on hammer and trigger. This is from memory so may be a bit worse or better. I really don't want to spend more than I offered as I also have to pay Sales Tax of 4%. Left my phone number if they change their mind. BTW it is a 4 inch gun. I also offered a fellow locally 550 for a SA Hellcat with 5 mags box and a box of Win blow away ammo. He called a bit ago and agreed to the price..so I guess I'm gonna own a Hellcat. Going to give it to my daughter I think

Y'all may be right...but we don't see too many Smith's except at gun shows and they are always in the stratosphere on pricing. 400 is what I paid for the 66-1 2 years ago
