I could be wrong but I believe that's a Lew Horton 640 Carry Comp. 150 made with rosewood grips and 150 made with Badger mother-of-pearl inlaid finger grips. Book says prefix's were RPC and PCT so that doesn't exactly match your friends prefix but close.

Someone else may know exactly but that's what I've found so far. Either way that's a great piece...one I'd love to find out in the wild.

Can't make out the logo but guessing by the PCU serial prefix it's a performance center gun.
The 640, 3" Carry Comp product code was 170014.

Btw the one that V-eight is referring to was product code 170042 which was different in that it was a 2" barrel gun where yours is a 3".

All of the old Performance center guns were specially made with lower production numbers and factory tuned actions which is a big step up from the standard line Imo.

I just wanted to add that the fact that it's a tuned PC gun adds value over a standard 640 IMO.
The downside of the compensated barrel guns is that it adds barrel length but that extra 1/2" - 1" is basically a big hole intended to vent gasses upward reducing muzzle rise, basicly it adds muzzle length but not rifled barrel length and a steel J frame 38 doesn't flip that much, .357 Magnum is another story.
It's still a huge bonus if you paid the going rate for a run o the mill 640 and got a PC gun instead.

The gun that is shown in the initial post is not a 3", probably a 2" or slightly longer.

Here's the first Lew Horton 3" version Carry Comp for comparison, this has the PCA prefix (my very first Performance Center gun).

Kinda tough to see/read but here's a flyer/broucher discussing the LH Carry Comp

Just found another thread where we discussed these Carry Comps.

The one above may be the Paxton Quigley model, that model had grips like the one above from my recollection. And the barrel length looks to be 2 5/8" like the PQ as discussed in the earlier thread.

Here's that thread:

My memory is cloudy but I seem to remember the PQ gun was for RSR, not Lew Horton, but that's just a recollection.

Lettering the gun may be interesting.....
