I am in the process of getting some classic 125 grain 357 mag jhsp rounds. With some luck it might be posssible to order some 125 grain rounds from remington in either UMC or the HTTP line.

Is there a real difference between these 2 rounds or is just marketing? Spec wise both rounds seem to identical?

Prise wise they are very similar at least in Austria. Mybe in the states the price is the difference with keeps them apart?

I want to use the rounds for target/fun shooting and for short range home defense as backup.

My main defense load for sd is a 38 special +p though.

My 357 mag sixshooter is a s&w model 19 by the way.

Remington HTP .357 ammo (High Terminal Performance) is a lot more expensive than UMC ammo. Price per box may be close, but HTP only has 20 round per box. UMC .357 comes in 50 round boxes or 100 round value packs.

The 125 grain loads in both lines appears to use the same Remington bullet. UMC is only available in that weight, but HTP is available with 110, 125, 158 and 180 grain bullets.

Did not know you guys in Austria were allowed to use guns for self defense.
How does it usually work out in court for the “good guy “ when that happens?

Thx for the infos so far.

@s&wchad That's interesting that the http line offers more bullet weights than the UMC line. In my case this is not important because I am only interested in the 125 grain load.

I will go for the "cheaper" offering then.

@smoothshooter Caring guns as civilian is very difficult to obtain. It is possible in theory but such permisions are hardly granted these days.

Using guns for home defense on the other hand is legally accepted and I have not heard of many cases that ended bad for the owner of the home he was defending.
