So, my lease was coming up to the end on wife's Trailblazer, and I've been looking at the Ford Maverick. I actually "ordered" the one I want about two + months ago. The gasoline-only engine is 2L Turbo, 250 HP. Slightly more power than her 3 cylinder Chevy was! The price was okay; much better than a real pickup, and her 4' 10" body doesn't need a step stool to get in. But the size of the truck is a little misleading, as it can fit 4X8 plywood/drywall in the bed without the wheel wells getting in the way. I jumped on it on Rt. 28 coming down toward Pittsburgh, and it's fast (for that tiny engine.) Mrs. Refrigeration will be driving it. Angel & I will be in the Malibu. I only put about 25 miles on it, but it's a very smooth ride. I bought the tow package for the suspension and I think the radiator is a little bigger and I think it has either/or the oil cooler & tranny cooler. It's actually a lot nicer than I thought it would be, and there are bells & whistles.
When I took the Chevy in for the return, they tried jerking me around, as the lease has a few more months and then there's a fee for having the pleasure of leasing. Part of my "deal" was the service mgr. was going to pay any costs involved. Chevy guy asked why I was switching to Ford. "Do you have any new Impalas on the lot? NO? I've owned several and loved every one of them."
So far, so good with the Ford. I'm glad I checked them out.

I bought an AWD gas-engine Maverick with tow package when they first came out in 2022. They were hard to find... I ordered it from a dealer in Iowa (I'm in NY) for $3K below MSRP, which was unheard of and local dealers were charging that much above MSRP. It took 11 months for Ford to get it built. I flew out to Iowa and had a nice road trip home in the new vehicle.

It has plenty of zip, gets excellent mileage (around 25MPG daily average and 35MPG on a trip), handles upstate NY winter weather with no problem and can tow my boat.

They are built to a price point and my only concern is longevity. But so far, I'm loving it. I hope your wife enjoys hers as much!

My first hand experience with Ford products is I know what they are good at doing and also what they are bad at doing. I trust what they do under the hood but fail to see the same quality/durability applied to the rest of their vehicles.

I swore that I would never get a Ford. I was a Chevy guy but, when the got the sweetheart deal from the government I was disgusted. I have had several Toyotas and was eagerly waiting for their updated Tundra but, it was taking forever. A friend had a contacted at the Ford dealer and my wife was pushing me to get a truck to help her with her antique business (okay, very little pushing).

They had a 2019 on the lot that was a Lariat edition in Magma Red. 3.5 Ecoboost to boot with the Supercab and 36 gallon tank. Took it for a test drive and I was sold. Right now at about 60K and still loving it. I put a Banks cat back on it. I was hoping that it would offset the cow puncher I put on the front. If I keep it about 75mph I can get about 22mpg. Before I would get close to 25.

I am now a Ford guy.

I've always been a Chevy guy (my first two vehicles back in the '70s were 1968 and 1969 Camaros. FORD = "Found On Road, Dead" or "Figure On Repairs Daily"), but over the years, I've purchased four different brands of new trucks; Toyota, Chevy, Dodge, and Ford. My new 1988 Chevy 2500 4x4 was the worst, with recalls, constant issues, and a frame failure (rust). I liked the 1995 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 a lot but it had an uncomfortable ride due to its solid front axle and the body rusted through quickly (upstate NY road salt is not kind to vehicles). My 1985 Toyota and 2022 Maverick are tied for my favorite at the moment.

As for the jokes about Ford performance, I've only owned two Fords. I had an older Crown Victoria that was powered by a 302 HO that surprised me. And the new Maverick is also surprisingly quick. To put it in '60s muscle car perspective, it does the 1/4-mile quicker than the Dodge/Chrysler hemis from back in the day!

Now, I'm old and skeptical and not really a fan of any brand of vehicle. I tend to research individual offerings instead of just considering vehicles from a specific manufacturer.

Ford vs. Chevy. 9mm vs .45 ACP. Blonde vs Brunette vs Redhead.

They're all the same kind of arguments. You like what you like, and you have to convince yourself that there is something wrong with anyone who likes something else.

OK, just to be fair

This hits close to home. From 1999 till July 2023 I drove GMCs with 2 Chevys sprinkled in. In 2020 I brought my new GMC Elevation home on a Tuesday. Friday morning I had a bedliner installed. Friday afternoon it left my driveway on a flat bed. The one before that was a 17. They replaced running boards twice because paint was peeling off. Same thing with the 2020, plus constant engine lights coming on. Less than 3 yrs with it I bailed out. Told my wife I was going back to Fords which I drove in late 80s and 90s plowing snow. Had to go 500 mi to get what I wanted but I did. 9 Months later my wife traded her Audi for new Bronco. We are officially a Ford family.

I have a 2014 Silverado with 69,000 miles on it, and like the two I owned before it, I'd almost pay someone to take it off my hands. At 72+, none of the new pickup trucks get my interest until they come with an elevator to get in and out. The Maverick has my attention.

we have owned many different makes.
Older Datsuns were the most reliable.
Just moved from a BMW 328i to a Mazda MX 30.
So far so good.
Wanted a Toyota but those CVT,s scare me for future issues.
I still have a 1994 Jeep and a 1992 F 250 that aren't going anywhere soon.

Those CVT transmissions were the whole reason I bought a new Ford Maverick.

My previous vehicle was a 2009 Subaru Forester, which is definitely one of my all-time favorites in 45 years of owning vehicles. It handled the upstate NY winters like a snowmobile, towed my boat OK and got decent mileage. It was a little on the gutless side, but was probably the most practical vehicle I've owned.

When the upstate road salt finally started to eat through it in 2022, I was ready to buy another one. But a new Forester could no longer tow my boat due to the CVT.

I have two friends that run repair shops, and neither of them have anything good to say about CVTs.

In the 80's I had Fords 90's I switched to Dodge Caravan and two trucks all three had over 200K , 2004 I got an Impala that my son totaled since then I went back to Fords great vehicles.

If you end up not liking your Maverick, sell it in Colorado. My daughter lives in Boulder and bought an AWD Maverick with the turbo 4 when they first came out two years ago. They are still in huge demand there. A few months ago, her dealer called her and offered to buy it back for more than she paid. She readily agreed, and bought a new Mazda SUV to replace it. If effect, the dealer paid her to lease the Maverick for two years.

Now, I'm old

I was in the middle of the 1960s drag scene with my 1963 Impala SS 409. I routinely turned the quarter mile in the mid 13s. The only horse race I had was with Dodge & Plymouth 426HP Hemis. What I do not understand is why Ford would bring back a name of a model with a less than positive reputation?? Maybe they thought there was no one around the remembers the original Mavericks?
