Sgt. Mike Viet Nam Humor

For everyone who has heard a round fired in anger, there are probably at least 20 who have not.

Ain't it the truth. Can't fight without them. It was hard to hear the incoming bullets in a UH-1 but you could feel them when they hit. The two Pig's in the back (M-60's) were LOUD.

There was a TV show starring Dana Delaney relating to the Marine Corps that had a great line: "They keep us in bullets, beans and Band-Aids." (or something like that)

China Beach was the TV show. There was a "China Beach" USO Center in Da Nang for in-country R&R. Since it wasn't far from the airfield we went there.

For all the "Brown Water Sailors"!

Don't you just love military jargon? PRB= Patrol Boat, River for a River Patrol Boat. I just call it a RPB, thank you. The guys manning those things were pretty crazy, but chasing a sanpan up a ditch? Watching The Zippo do their thing was wild. I'll dig up a picture of Zippo later.

Vung Tau was another in-country R&R place. My dear friend, Rex Reinl did his second tour with the Cobra NETT (New Equipment Training Team) at Vung Tau. He used to bug me about only doing one tour. I would say, Rex, you lived in a French villa with hot and cold running hooch maids. Almost not a combat tour.;)

It sure felt this way after we got one ready to fly after it had been torn apart for parts for other aircraft. we had 10 A6's, could usually keep nine in flyable condition by stripping the tenth for parts (supply is not that wonderful most of the time). We had to do this every 30 days or explain to the General why the one bird did not fly for 30 days. Fun & Games!
