I was born in England and grew up there listening to Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed, great jazz and other music and watching Clint Eastwood movies… I became a traveling muso for a living.
Moved to the USA in Jan 2000.
This is a little slice of my favorite stuff.. I should add mashed potatoes

If you haven't already been, go to Alaska (preferably in the summer unless cold and snow are your thing). Every American should at least once in their life, and that goes double for foreigners, transplants and sightseers. Absolutely gorgeous and very friendly people.

Way back- was in that locale where the Rain Falls Mostly on the Plain.
And I was in this huge night club with a continuous floor show.
Curtain opens, four guys, Rock and Roll!
As I listen I'm thinking they pronounce and phrase like Alabama?
Georgia-Carolina's?
After their set, I see them getting a Drink, so I walk over for a chat.
Man was I in for a surprise!
These Dudes were Cocky English! I could barely understand them!
Their singing? They learned the songs singing along with the records.
So when the sang a Little Richard song, the pronounced and phrased like him.

My oldest son brought home a nice girl from Germany in 2005. On Saint Valentines Day this year, she was sworn in as a US Citizen in Philidelphia. She had been trying for almost 4 years to get duel citizenship, but for unknown reasons Germany drug its feet.

I believe "Continual Immagration" is the secret to America's greatness. Different waves of immigrants have gotten on the nerves of their predecessors, and that will continue as long as America exists. Some of my ancestors were brought here from Germany by King George III to fight against the Revolutionaries. My Great Grandmother was a mail order bride from the same part of Germany, and my D-I-L came from that same region. (My kids are a disgrace; we don't like Sour Kraut!)

This is the land of opportunity!

I've been to the lower 48 and Hawaii.
My favorite is the west in General.
I absolutely love the desert.
CA, UT, AZ, NM, CO and the northwest is another thing altogether.
I went to a public shooting range just a mile or two north of Kanab UT.

Imagine this newbie with a pre 17, 27-2 and a 19-3 out there.
What a blast.
I will be back there with more at some point.
I was there 8:30am weekday. Not another soul.

Driving miles out west is a favorite thing of mine.
All the national parks. Grand Canyon.. Bryce, Monument Valley, Death Valley.

A particular favorite is Mono Lake and the whole 395 from Tahoe to Mojave.
I have met people who've never been west of the Mississippi.
Some might go abroad before they discover what's in their own back yard.
The US west is fabulous all over.
Being a traveling musician, I get to do it a lot, mostly because I have to, but I do love it, especially taking new routes.
If you haven't been to these places, they are absolute musts!

I've never cared for the west. Although picturesque it's not for me. I'd say you ended up in the most beautiful area of our county. The Appalachian Mountains. Be it Blue Ridge, Smokey, Allegheny or whatever you want to call it. Abundance of wildlife and outdoor activities galore…….. my question is are you a tea or coffee guy ?

It's interesting to track how immigration affects your family tree if you are lucky enough to have access to detailed information on your ancestors. Thanks to the exhaustive efforts of others, I've looked at mine back to the 1600's in this country. There are many, many, marriages into more recent immigrant families. Myself included.

I can track us back to Virginia.
Then I have been unable to identify which family there is us.
Way back I was a B-52 Crewmember.
And I got to go on an England- Spain Trip.
We Landed at a RAF- USAF joint base.
RAF drives over to check out our BUFF. One of the RAF guys was a Civilian Mechanic with name tag. Somebody says, you guys have the same name! You might be related! Maybe!
Common name, and we have been gone for from here about 300 years!
I usually say - my folks had bad breath and body odors!
But so did everyone else! But my folks had Bad Attitude!
So they were ordered to go to a port, get on a boat, go somewhere! Anywhere! They went to Virginia.
Some of us are hard dogs to keep under the porch and have been moving around ever since.

One GGGG-granddaddy was born in Virginia in 1706. Not sure when or if his father was born here or in the Old Country.

The story goes that in the 1600s, another branch of the family, the Stewarts, were offered two choices-the Tower of London or a cruise to the colony of Mary-Land. The smart ones said "Let'd get on the boat! Let's get on the boat!"

Using the Mormon genealogy site FamilySearch.org I was able to trace parts of my family all the way back to the 1100s. It's an interesting site to spend time with, but can be a real time sink.
